Guest guest
I am way behind on my posts so sorry if this is late or a repeat of what someone else said. We had an IEP meeting and 3 doctors appointments for my son so far this week!!! Anyway, we got our advocate free of charge from the Arc. Here is a link to find a chapter near you. http://www.thearc.org/chaptersearch/ You could also contact your local or state autism society to see if they know of any agencies near you that offer advocacy services. The autism society here has been a great resource for me. I have even started going to their meetings. Even though my son doesn't have an autism diagnosis, they have welcomed me with open arms. Tricia Morin North Carolina How do I find a advocate for myself and my son here in Spring Grove, Illinois? My son turns three in July and I want to be prepared. The better educated I am along with the proper information about apraxia and our rights will make all the difference in my sons future. Guest guest
Sue, Parent Advocate Kim is great. She is well respected and was actually recommended to us by my son's ABA Therapist (ASD).Try giving her a call. Also she is a free advocate, as she does not charge a fee for her services. Guest guest
Hi, I have found my school district's Parent Mentor to be extremely helpful! I imagine your aunt's district has one too. Here is the link: http://www.thelinkto.org/parentmentor/ Just click on " Ohio County Map " and go from there. Best of luck, Janice > > Looking for help for a family member - > > My aunt is fighting an east side school for and IEP and services for an adopted son with a variety of diagnosis from ADD to post traumatic stress to behavorial issues. Guest guest
Just an FYI--not all districts employ parent mentors and the ones in my district are pretty much useless. Not saying that's the case everywhere, but it is in my area. Kim gave me some wonderful suggestions, but would not attend an IEP in my district (just b/c my district is so awful to deal with--we had to go the attorney route).
