Guest guest
Hi,My son was also teething at the time he got banded and was also having sleeping problems.. I started using a soft pillow and it seemed to help. I also gave him homeopathic teething tablets.. He is 9 months old. He used to sleep thru the night until he started cutting teeth and then a month later got his helmet. Now he is up about every 1-2 hours when he tries to move to get comfortable and it just seems like he cant. Sometimes I think its a combo of teething (he has bottom two and top two just broke thru) and the helmet but I was wondering if anyone else's child had sleeping issues with a helmet on? ~Very tired mom Lori
Guest guest
My baby has been in his helmet for ~2 weeks and he has just started getting back to his normal sleep pattern. He would still cry out couple times in the night, but will go back to sleep right away. The only thing that worked for us is co-sleeping in our bed. He also had a cold a week after we got the helmet, which probably also delayed his adjustment. Guest guest
I can't speak regarding the issue of just the helmet and sleep, but I can speak regarding the being up constantly. was (is) a reflux baby who also had unrecognized dairy allergy until 2.5 months old and unrecognized wheat allergy until 13 months old. Although she is currently medicated well for her reflux, we have had our struggles with finding good medication doses. And, every one in a while, she'd get an accidently exposure to dairy through my breast milk. We discovered her wheat allergy at 13 months. I say all of this because one of her biggest symptoms is disturbed sleep. Her allergies are GI allergies so she is in constant GI pain (cramping and gas) with an exposure. And, reflux is always worse at night. At around 9 months, after 3 months of being up every hour or so (this started when we introduced solid foods - as an infant she was allergic to some of them), I started giving in and letting sleep with me from time to time. We stabalized her on her reflux meds at 12 months and got her off of wheat at 13.5 months. This was around when we decided to get the helmet. I told myself that if she needed to, she could continue to sleep with me until the helmet was off. It's a small price to pay for a short period of time so that we can get correction and sleep. actually sleeps better in her helmet than we thought she would. She still isn't a great sleeper, Poor habits die hard, but it's all fixable. goes down in her crib nightly. AND, she falls asleep without nursing - pretty amazing for her. If she wakes up, I often put her in the bed with me. After the helmet comes off, we will work on her sleep. I'm just suggesting that you do what you need to do to get through this time period. It will work out in the end. Even my pediatrician understood when I told her that I was too tired and had started having come to bed with me. The safety risks of this lower when our kids get older and I believe that 9 months should be old enough. Of course, some people are against cosleeping and I'm not sure if you are (I used to be), but it's something to consider. , mom to , 19 months 18.5 weeks in STARband plus CST land Sleeping issues My son has been DOC banded since 1/12/09.. Guest guest
Our is 8 years old and still sleeps with me (yes I know it's horrible). We have (inconsistently) tried to have him sleep in his own room with no success. We experience 2+ hours of crying, screaming, hitting the wall, yelling and when he falls asleep he wakes up every couple hours calling me. We have tried me laying with him til he falls asleep and he then awakes and starts the crying/hollering; me laying on the floor and moving when he's asleep-- again wakes when I'm moving and starts; cold turkey -- horrible; me sitting in the the room and moving -- gets panicky whe he awakes and doesn't know where I am. Even while he's sleeping with me and I get up to go downstairs or the potty he wakes and gets panicky. We are open to any and all suggestions be they from experience, professionals, etc.
