Guest guest
did you have to literally pick up and move districts as we did? it is unfortunate the districts seem to hold all the cards in terms of money, power, legal representation, etc. It seems like a no win situation. sadly, our children are then at an even greater disadvantage. lisa In a message dated 11/8/2010 9:28:22 A.M. You can ask that person to attend meetings with you. Another idea is to contact the ARC in your county. I am assuming you live in Stark County. It would be great to contact them and let them know of your experience with the school district. They would definitely be able to tell you what laws have been violated. All that said, don't let them bully you or your children. Guest guest
We didn't pick up and move but trust me, we seriously seriously considered moving just to get him in a better school. We finally reached an agreement with the old district that they would provide transportation for him to the program provided through the county in another district. It has worked out for the best for him...and for us...but we lost so much precious time last year fighting for what they should have been doing. They did so many wrong things that I can't get into here but I prayed every night (and still do) that we had the power and legal representation so that we could do something about it so what happen to us doesn't happen to anyone else from this specific and all public school districts. Even though we are 100% in a better place I am still pretty livid when I think about how hugely we were failed our son. You spoke my thoughts exactly when you said that it is a no win situation and our children are at a greater disadvantage...isn't that what the school district is for??? No child left behind....my backside...I wish there was more to do.....If anyone needs advice or 1st hand experience I don't mind sharing anything that we know from our experiences. The only thing that we can do out there is to support each other. Guaranteed none of us out there are alone with our frustrations and struggles. Sorry for my rant. Guest guest
That Special Ed. director needs to do some homework about the Autism Spectrum since all of those diagnoses can co-exist. That is terrible that they are treating you this way! Guest guest
i think the arc, ocali, ocdd (ohio coalition for developmental disabilities),possibly the board of dd where you live and local groups like milestones (autism)? might be able to help with advocacy and attorney references.
