Guest guest
Dear friends, family, and colleagues, As most of you know, my son Connor was diagnosed with Autism in 2005. It was a scary diagnosis for me since I knew very little about the diagnosis. Sure, I had seen Rain Man, but that did little to explain what Connor's life would be like. As I began to try to gain insight into this diagnosis, I became frustrated since there weren't a lot of answers available for what I wanted to know. About this same time, I became interested in the Towpath Trail. I decided it would be cool to raise money for some cause by riding the length of the trail by bike - no small feat since the route of the trail covers about 100 miles and I am, to say the least, not the most athletic of individuals. Ultimately, I chose the Organization for Autism Research as the beneficiary of my fundraising efforts. I chose this organization since they were dedicated to funding research to try to not only help solve the puzzle of what Autism is, but also to help families who are affected by it. So began my bi-annual goal of raising money for OAR. The last fundraiser was in 2008. So that means that I'm at it again in 2010. This year, I will embark on a 300 mile journey with three great friends to try to raise money for OAR. We will follow the route of the Ohio & Erie Canal from Cleveland to Portsmouth by bike over 5 days in mid June and try to raise $10,000 for OAR. We have decided that if we can get 500 people to donate $10 each as well as encourage them to get at least one friend to also donate $10, we can reach our goal. We have set up a website to follow our exploits as well as a secure donation site through firstgiving.com to make it easy for folks to help us out. The addresses are: www.ohioanderiecanal.com/towpathexpedition2010.htm www.firstgiving.com/towpathexpedition2010 I have also set up a fundraising event with Applebee's that will take place this coming Monday, May 17. If you can, come out to the Applebee's on Howe Avenue between 4 p.m. and 9 p.m. for dinner or drinks and Applebee's will donate 15% of your bill to our cause. You only have to bring the attached flyer to the event and they will take care of the rest. You can even order carryout and as long as you present the flyer when you pick your order, you'll be able to help us out. Please take a moment to help us out with a donation and let your friends know about our efforts. Every little bit helps. Thank you so much in advance for your generosity. Hope to see you at Applebee's on Monday! Peace. Daveastronurse1@... p.s. For those of you who have already donated, know that I am deeply thankful for your kindness. Your generosity will give me strength as I push this 40 year old body to its limits on this ride. You can follow our ride on Facebook as well. Search "Towpath Expedition 2010" and join our group for all the information you need.
