An idea to share

Hi Everyone,

I am not sure where I heard of this idea, but I did it last year and this year and I got great feedback from the school staff. I wrote a little one page bio about my son geared for the regular education staff at his school to get to know him. I pointed out all of his strengths and likes, so they get a picture of what a great kid he can be and maybe use some of his interests to engage him. I made sure I put at the beginning how much we love him at home. I think sometimes staff may only see certain sides of our kids and they can jump to conclusions easily. I think this is a great way for them to look at them from our perspective. I have gotten great feedback from the staff and he had the best year ever in regular ed last year. I hoping for another one this year!!

Just thought I would share.....

Thanks for sharing, Laurie!  I did something similar last year but wrote it from my son's perspective (he was 6 at the time).  I talked about needing to wear sunglasses on the playground because of his light sensitivity and also his food aversions (like if I gag at lunch, I don't have the flu but probably got grossed out by something someone at the lunch table was eating).

Peace,

Tara

thats a great idea. i should do that for my son too although almost everyone of the staff knows him already. id like for him to be known from his point of view too and how much he knows he just has different ways of showing it. :)
