Guest guest
I was lying in bed last night unable to sleep, it really wasn't that late, but I had dozed off and then woke up for some reason. I flicked between the channels and ended up seeing the end of some silly plastic surgery show on Lifestyle Health, and that show was followed by one called " the 635 pound woman " . What a story!!!! Her name was Jackie and she lived in south usa. She had a wonderful girl who was per home nurse and this young girl kept her mobile and moving, to a certain extent. This girl also was a huge help in getting her to a doctor in Virginia who was prepared to do bypass surgery on her. It was an ordeal and half. The surgeon was fantastic and I am going to try and do some research and find out if he has written any papers because the words he used to describe an over eater applied to us all. Anyway, after months of recovery and all sorts of monumental problems including malnutritian in a 200kg woman, which needed tube feeding, wound problems and still problems with immobility, she was eventually able to get home. She was a darling and I hope that she will succeed. This doctors comments amazed me. He called us over eaters who definately have to have a " fix " . We are addicted and no amount of councilling or dietary advice is going to help us over eaters. It is not like alcoholism where we can stop... he said, ask an alcoholic to have just three drinks a day - most alcoholics can't. But, foodies need nourishment and we have to put food in our mouths to live. He actually would like to meet a head doctor or dietitian that can make us change our ways. He said that we need wls to give us hope and to prove to ourselves that we can loose. Most over eaters are always going to be over eaters, and even if we cut what we put in our mouths in half, our bodies are not going to believe it, and basically it will not accept that, therefore we will not loose. We need to actually get up and move, and move a lot to start the system working again, and the problem with super obesity is that those very large people cannot move, hence the wls sometimes taking a long time to kick in. I figured the moral to this story is - move, move, move... even if we don't feel like it, even if it is to the letter box and back 3 times a day - move!
