Guest guest
A Special Invitation From your Friends at the National Autism Association - Northeast Ohio NORTHEAST OHIO CHAPTER OCTOBER 2, 2010 Join Us at the Night at the Races event, raising funds for Northeast Ohio children with autism! Letter from Terri Buesking, Event Chair The 2010 “Night at the Races†event to benefit the National Autism Association- Northeast Ohio (NAA-NEO) in collaboration with the STEPS Center for Excellence in Autism is set for October 2, 2010 at the UAW #1250 Hall in Brookpark, Ohio. The majority of the proceeds from this event will be used to fund NAA-NEO’s newly established STEPS Center Tuition Assistance Program. A smaller portion will support the 2010 Helping Hands Grant Program and NAA-NEO’s parent organization, the National Autism Association. The NAA-NEO is a 501©(3) non-profit organization (#200032380), providing families with service linkage as well as financial assistance in the Ashtabula, Columbiana, Cuyahoga, Erie, Geauga, Lake, Lorain, Mahoning, Medina, Portage, Stark, Summit and Trumbull counties of Ohio, through the Helping Hand Program. The monies may be used for respite care, a variety of therapy services (i.e. speech therapy, occupational therapy, behavioral therapy, music therapy, tuition assistance, marriage counseling for parents, and others), camp, as well as necessary medical testing and treatments, including biomedical treatments for their dependent(s), child, or children with autism. The STEPS Center is a not for profit school (Tax ID #27-0508199) located in Strongsville, Ohio that was developed to meet the needs of children ages 3-18 throughout Northeast Ohio diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders and related developmental delays in a center-based program. The STEPS Program offers a 1:1 teacher to student ratio, addresses communication, conversation and language skills, motor skills, social and play skills, receptive language skills, imitation skills and small and large group responding. In addition, behavior programs are designed to increase functional behaviors. Early Intervention and individualized treatment is the key to the success of children with Autism. To be effective early intervention must be comprehensive, intensive, extended over time, individualized, and delivered directly to children. A child with autism has the ability to live a full productive life and is able to grow into a participating member of society. Unfortunately, Autism related treatments and services are not covered by most insurance plans. Out-of-pocket expenses for a famil y can cost from $50,000 to $200,000 a year. Today's tough economic conditions are making it difficult for our families to meet the needs of their children and they need help!
