Guest guest
After talking to Mandi at last year conference I decided to see the GP, not really thinking any of this adrenal stuff would really be an issue, just thought I was getting older. Couldn't believe it when thyroid antibody test came back positive [Hashimoto's] almost certainly brought on by stress. Now permanently on Thyroxine. Can't do the night out with the girls thing because I don't really socialise, wondering how many others here don't have any normal kids like me, it's difficult to be involved with mainstream when your entire life is ASD, never meet a mainstream parent! Guest guest
Well said! But I'd like to add adrenal cortex is a double edge sword, it can back fire and mess up your adrenals even further if taken long term or for long-ish stretches. I personally would take in on rare occasions only and only few days in a row, if at all.Otherwise one can end up taking it to offset the symptoms that it itself is causing :-0Natasa From: greenkirsty1 <greenkirsty1@...>Reply- "Autism Treatment " <Autism Treatment >Date: Sun, 25 Mar 2012 10:12:07 -0000 "Autism Treatment " <Autism Treatment >Subject: Autism Mums looking after themselves Seeing as us Autism mums do not get to relax and de-stress like most of our friends, I just wanted to get us all on here to think about what we do for ourselves. Adrenal cortex is absolutely vital for all of us in this house. The only person not taking it is my youngest son, who will be soon, and the dog (he has his own supplements and diatom !) A good womans multivit. On top of these i also take Vit C, Magnesium, Iodoral (important for women), fish oils, Evening primrose, Candida clear, Vit D3, B Vitamins and a parasite cleanse every few months. On top of this an oxypowder clearout too helps (when you do not need to go anywhere!!!) The key is consistency. Take the vits everyday and you will find yourself coping more. May be an extra expense, but if we are willing to do it for our kids, we must do it for ourselves too, as we are what they rely on each day. And get out with friends often!! and laugh!!! lots!!! Lecture over Just wanted to help some people out if they are feeling stuck in a rut.Now back to fighting autism. Have a nice relaxing sunday everyone Kirsty xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Guest guest
Kirsty, You are so right and I have to remind myself often to take better care of myself. It's so easy to go down hill when your worn out and deprived of sleep. Thanks for the reminder, x > > Seeing as us Autism mums do not get to relax and de-stress like most of our friends, I just wanted to get us all on here to think about what we do for ourselves. > We all take so much time looking into supplements and treatments for our kids, we need to start doing the same for ourselves. After all, it is down to us parents to start looking after ourselves so we are able to keep up the astounding work we all do for our children. > > We are stressed much of the time, sleep deprived and maybe not eating well either. > I talked about this briefly when i spoke at the TA conference a couple of years back and was really looking after myself then. Gradually, after two years of getting up through the night (on top of the usual awakenings to do Cutler doses) I found myself really starting to struggle. I was constantly tired and stressed, eating rubbish to keep my sugar levels up etc. > It is only recently, when Sam's health has deteriorated again, that I am looking after myself again, and it has made me realise how vital my health is to Sam's recovery. > I feel more awake and alert, healthier and more able to cope when things start going wrong (or when you want to commit manslaughter to NHS staff). > > I am trying to make myself go to bed earlier, which is a struggle for me because I wake up in the evening (adrenal issues), I am eating better, trying to move away from the snack cupboard when i feel rubbish. I make green juice most mornings for myself which keeps my stomach in order and hair, nails and skin all improve. And the thing to top it all off is the supplements i take.
