Guest guest
My son is scheduled for a T & A on May 22nd. His surgeon uses the coblation technique and performs about 14 pediatric T & A's per week. Apparently this is the latest technology and is commonly accepted as " best practice " . It cuts down on bleeding as compared to traditional methods, which in turn of course speeds up and eases recovery. Guest guest
hi ramsey had his T & A out and tubes in ears Wed the 16th, 7days ago. with the coablation method. coming out of anesthesia was the worst part. Ramsey did stay in the hosp over night because of his age (23 months) and weight 28lbs, which was a good thing because he was getting IV fluids to keep him from dehydrating. he did have a hard time keeping jello down wed. night and early thurs morning and so the did give him something for nausea which help him with chicken noodle soup.. I was really questioning myself about the surgery if we had done the right thing because the first 2 days was really tough Ramsey or I didnt sleep his because of pain me I was to paranoid to go to sleep.Ramsey has been a real trooper..But he was on an antibx for 7 days and pain meds as needed. I use to not have any trouble with him taking any medication by mouth. but now since the surgery I have to literally force him and hold him down to get him to take his medications. I tried chocolate syrup and ice cream but nothing work luckly today was the last day for the antibiotic...The pain meds (loritab)I did give it every 6 hours apart just to keep the pain level down. Ramsey doesnt talk so I wanted to make sure he wasnt in pain. I could tell when his throat started to hurt because he wouldnt swallow and drool would be everywhere. I only had to give Ramsey pain medication for 3 days. By the fourth day I did give it to him at bedtime just so he would sleep good. The fourth day he thought he was ready to eat regular foods, I didnt let him because I personally didnt think he was ready. So I still pushed cold soft food like mashed potatoes and mac and cheese from the fridge I did not heat it because I thought it would feel better on his throat cold and cottage cheese. Yesturday I did let him have cheese puffs and have resumed a regular diet I did keep him on pedilyte until today just to make sure he was well hydrated. But he drank on his on without me forcing anything, I really was expecting a rough recovery and was waiting for days 5 thru 7 to be the worst but everything is going great. I hope I'm not jinxing my self by saying that. There is recovery techniques that ginger had typed out that I printed out and lived by for 3 days I even took it to the hosp with us just in case we had difficulty with anything I could alway look at her notes for help. I do hope that the surgery goes well and we will definately pray for your family. Hang in there, Im sure Conyers will do just fine and bounce back to normal in no time. Guest guest
Hi Emma (she will be 3 in July) had her T & A on 19th March, using coblation. The recovery took 10 days and days 5-7 were the worst. The doctor told us to expect this to happen. It wasn't an easy 10 days but even the worst days were much easier than dealing with a episode. Emma ate and drank enough for us to never worry about dehydration, and she only lost a little weight. She was quite happy and energetic a lot of the time. She was on a lot of medication: antibiotics, prednisone, voltaren suppositories (strong anti-inflammatory) and stopayne (paracetamol with codeine) for 6 days and days 7-10 we managed with just a few doses of calpol (low-dosage paracetamol syrup). The ENT said the first week to keep medicating her without waiting for her pain to get bad. During the night she slept fairly well (much better than with fevers) and only woke once or twice, which is when I would medicate her again. Good luck for the 30th - feel free to email me personally if you have any more questions. Take care Inga __________________________________________________________ Sent from .
