Hands on Training for Parents and Professionals:

Teaching Techniques using Applied Behavior Analysis and Verbal Behavior

This is a 6 session training series for tutors/therapists who are interested in learning more about applied behavior analysis/verbal behavior. Each session is about 3 hours in length and all 6 sessions are required.

This workshop is designed to give parents and professionals an introduction to utilizing Skinner’s verbal operants in regard to language acquisition programming. Participants will have an introduction to related terminology, view video examples of various learners at a various skill levels, and have an introduction to Skinner’s verbal operants, the Assessment of Basic Language and Learning Skills (ABLLS), and utilizing the verbal operants in the natural environment. This presentation will present several teaching examples in addition to allowing participants the opportunity for hands-on practice with teaching procedures and error correction procedures.

Speaker:

Flake-Houseworth, BCBA has worked with children with autism spectrum disorders using the principles of applied behavior analysis/verbal behavior since October 2001. During that time she has had the opportunity to work at a year round school for children with autism spectrum disorder in Columbus, OH (May 2005- Oct. 2005) and work at Dr. Carbone's clinic in Valley Cottage, NY (Oct. 2005- May 2006). In May, 2005, Ms. Flake-Houseworth graduated from Northern Kentucky University with a bachelor's degree in elementary and special education. In May 2010, Ms. Flake-Houseworth graduated from University of Dayton School of Law. She has received additional clinical supervision from Cherish Twigg of Establishing Operations. She is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst, completing coursework through University of North Texas.
