Re: antibiotics and hives

I doubt there is a correlation between being allergic to antibiotics and

... my daughter, whom isn't my fever child, is anaphylactic to

Penicillin. She also was able to take penicillin for years until 3 days

after her 10th birthday when she got sick and needed antibiotics and

suddenly her tongue began swelling, her throat, her entire body from head

to toe ... it was incredibly serious and she almost passed out from lack

of oxygen. And she didn't have any warnings prior to this. Like I said

she doesn't fever. As a matter of fact her anaphylactic response ended up

damaging her ear and now she has loss of hearing in her one ear ...

My son, whom is my fever child, he also has developed allergies to certain

antibiotics after using them several times. He only gets hives at this

point ... but my understanding is that the more times a person is

introduced to an allergen, then your body can develop this allergic

response. Generally, a child isn't anaphylactic the first exposure like

you would think and I know I've always had this misconception ... it takes

several times of exposure. We now know not to ever expose Mason to

certain antibiotics because in time he would also go anaphylactic as my

daughter did. We now keep epi-pens on hand.

Hope this helps.
