Guest guest
I believe my 5-year-old child did outgrow it. It's been a year since she fevered although she still has the metallic breath and fatigue at times. The fevers subsided at the same time I started giving her some multi-vitamins with fish oil, but I can't say there's any correlation. I've seen a few posts over the years from parents whose children outgrew it. I think you are right that the parents whose children stopped fevering stop posting. Guest guest
My son fevered from around December 2001 (almost 1 year old) to June 2006. Then the fevers stopped. Starting in 2004 the fevers tapered off and each year after that he had a few less fevers. He never had a T & A. We treated the fevers with prednisone and although it initially made the fevers come closer together, they eventually spread out again. The prednisone made the fevers go away within 1 hour of one dose (1 tsp). and always made him sleepy and knocked him out. in Tampa.
Guest guest
How long did it take for the prednisolone to space the fevers? It made my sons come around 8 to 12 days apart. The last fever it didn't break all the way. He ran a low 101 for four days and its been a month since the last fever. I'm wondering what to do. When they were coming so close we scheduled a T & A for November. Now I don't know. Maybe the pred would work if we gave it more time. Guest guest
Thanks , thats kind of what we are expecting to happen and will probably still try the prednisone when it does.

Guest guest
Hi Stacey We had one 16-week break and one 12-week break before the T & A. We hoped that meant that Emma was outgrowing it but the the episodes went back to her usual monthly cycle, sometimes more often with prednisolone. Hope this helps Inga

Guest guest
Once taking the pred. the fevers could come as close to a week a part. If they came that close together I did not use the pred. for the second fever. I used tylenol and waited it out for the 3 to 4 days. Then the next one would come 3 to 4 weeks and then I used pred. again. When I gave pred., I only gave one dose (1 tsp) of pred. for the fever. I really don't remember exactly, but I think the fevers started to spread out again after 2 or 3 months. It seemed like a long time at the time. I don't think the pred. made the fevers eventually go away, I think that just occurred on its own. But I don't know for sure. in Tampa. Guest guest
I think some parent's whose children stop cycling do not post because they are afraid they may jinx themselves. I know that how I feel! I do not want to say it's gone, for fear it will return! My daughter (now 7) started fevering when she was one. We went years with being told it was viral and she was a sickly one before finding out it was . I hope people with young children are grateful for how quickly they are labeling kids now, five years ago that was not the case! If I had known then what I know now, I would have had the T & A done right away and saved us all! My daughter cycled every 21 days with high fever, no mouth sore, we used pred. and found it very effective. It did bring her cycles closer together for about four months, but then they spread out again. Last year my daughter only fevered six times and in 2008 we are down to three and the last one was in June. Dr. Feeder (CT Children's) declared her " cured " last month! We are keeping our fingers crossed!! Amy

Guest guest
Did you have her tonsils and adnoids removed? I'm curious as my son, age 6, his cycles/history sounds very much like your daughters. He has not outgrown it yet. We are going to see an ENT next week. Since I've joined this group, I've learned so much and now feel like I know what I'm talking about when I talk with the doctors ! Guest guest
Amy R.- My daughter never had a T & A done. By the time we knew about is she was cycling less and less and it didn't seem worth it to put her through surgery. Amy Abbati

Guest guest
Sorry for the late response - I, like you, have been swamped and have not been able to keep up with the messages the last couple of weeks! I haven't gotten to any of the other responses you may have received, but my daughter, who just turned six on Saturday, seems to have outgrown this. Like your child, she never received any medications other than Motrin and (once or twice) Tylenol. This controlled her fevers completely. Over the past year and a half, they have just stopped coming. Her last fever was in March and I'm hoping that I've seen the last of them. Guest guest
Thats kind of what we are hoping is happening with Teagan. Thursday would be her cycle day and if she skips this cycle as well (she skipped the last one) we will be very hopeful. Stacey

Guest guest
Hi Amy - Just wondering how old your daughter is now and when she started to cycle less and less. Also, did you ever use steroids to control the fever? My daughter is 5 and has been fevering since 16 months, we tried cimeditine and it did not work, so we use steroids and have not had a T & A. She is also cycling less and less, but says her tummy hurts at times. As for the steroids, she did not have bad behavior while on them and they came slightly closer together at times, but not for long. Guest guest
Hi Lynn, You say that your daughter's fevers came slightly closer, but not for long. Did they eventually go back to a longer cycle period? Olga
Guest guest
Hi Olga, Yes, they did. The few times at the beginning when she started on the pred. the fevers came within a few days of eachother, then eventually went back to a 3-5 week schedule, and have gotten farther and farther apart over the years. I give her the pred. 1 time when the fever gets high (around 102) or if I can tell she has not something else I will give it to her around a temp of 101. I did have to give her the pred. again those times it was and the fever went away until the next cycle. Her longest break was August 2007 to March 2008. Guest guest
Lynn- My daughter turned seven in August, she began fevering about one year. We also tried cimendine which she broke through and didn't work for us. We have used the pred. and is was a godsend for us, the fevers did come closer together for several months and then spread out. My daughter got such relief from it and it was such a small dose, it never worried us- we rather do that than half a bottle of tylenol / IB. Once we started using the Pred., right when our daughter started kindergarden, she never missed a day of school because of , except for one day, the first time I gave her pred. and I was not sure it would work!! has been " cycling out " as her Dr. calls it for the last year and half. Her Dr. (Feeder) feels most children fever for a period of five years, which put her right on target. She fevered 6 times in '07 and three times in '08, the last being in early July. That is the reason we never did a T & A, if I had know about it about it 3 or 4 years ago I would have jumped at the opportunity to end it all. As I have said before my daughter was never severe, no mouth sores or joint pain - just high fevers, stomach pain and headache. I will admit my chest still tightens when I hear her say " Mommy I don't feel good " and my hand goes for her forehead! We hope it's gone for good, and if not the breaks been great!
