Guest guest
Hi Shanna, I cannot comment on what the steroid is supposed to do and not do because we never tried it. However, I can comment on one thing. My son used to get ulcers all over his tonsils, some episodes he got the puss on his tonsils. However the ulcers on the tonsils were by far the WORST episodes. They were extremely painful and he would refuse water and food most of the time. They also seemed to linger longer than the rest of the symptoms. Each time he tested negative for strep. These ulcers only reared their ugly heads during the nastiest of episodes. Mom2 Born 5/11/06 T & A May 2008, fever free since

Guest guest
Hi Shanna, To my understanding the Predisone is help knock out the fever and symptoms with a much faster pace. However doing so will sometimes cause a childs cycle to return faster, which was our case so we stopped using the steroid monthly. Our son does get very nasty white puss sacks on his swollen tonsils ever month and sometimes a few canker sores along the cheek walls. He also gets stomach ulcers and very high fevers sometimes his fevers aren't so high but the puss sacks are an always. Before he was diagnosed with his symptoms always resembled strep throat but cultures always came up negative. " Hence the label. " As too with your child, went through the summer cycle free and returned right after school began. Symptoms were right back to his " normal " cycle. All we gave him was Motrin for his fever and pain. His cycle lasted for 5 days and in fact ended today like clock work. Yes, the steroid normally works very fast and very well but there are long term affects to using steroids and the cycles tend to return faster. So your darn if you do and darn if you don't for us the extra 3 days of hell is worth keeping him off the steroid. However; as I know that I'm writing to you all there will be a time that we will need to use a dose or two because of the severity of his attacks at times. Everything in moderation is the key for us. I hope this helps, and stay strong and keep up the great work for your munchkin! Thanks to all, Suzanne
