Isn't that what all drug dealers do, freebies till you're hooked and then they make you pay...

  • 3 weeks later...

They just said that the eye just hit land, they call it hitting when the center of the eye hits the land... I say its hitting when the storms bands start in! :o) You've got a big red cell going around ya right now, that is why it has picked up in such force... They said the restaurant is totaled, it was completely gutted by fire... Their not sure if the woman and child were inside the restaurant or huddling outside it, they both were taken to the hospital...

Helen

Yeah, I still have power, not even a flicker which is why I thought it may have been lightning. But all three were just single flashes while lightning is usually a series of flashes, then again, transformer pops usually have a real loud bang. I hope that restaurant didn't burn down, it's a real nice restaurant and it's been there for 40 years but they probably can't risk having the firefighters put it out. They say that an adult and a four year old child were injured in the fire, they also said there was a third but I didn't catch if it was an adult or what. What a child was doing at the restaurant in this weather, I don't know; but they say they were found outside the restaurant. The last word was that there was one final bout of strengthening which made the storm symmetrical. For some reason, the winds are still strong on the back side which is unusual but they say it'll die down before it gets to us and it'll just be heavy rain on the back side. The wind is still howling over here with some rain spitting about. Officially, the eye is only just about to make landfall, once the eye is on land the storm can't strengthen.

That is terrible about the boy :o( Now the father will feel guilt the rest of his life...looks like you will be getting a brake here soon when the eye is finally over you... The weather channel lost contact with one of there weather man...

Helen

On Fox, they say it was two males and a female child with one of the males being the father. Both the father and the child have burns on 80% of their body. Poor child, disfigured for life from the age of four. The first fatality was during the afternoon up in Montgomery county, there a man decided to cut down a tree rather than risk it being blown down but when he fell the tree, it killed his 10 year old son. This storm seems to be after the kids.

I wish there was enough light for me to take a video of the trees bending over. They're saying that this has been a really unusual hurricane, it expanded instead of strengthening and the eye formed late and formed very large but was never really well defined.

That would be so scary to see a skyscraper doing that... They won't be rescuing anyone during the storm they said, its too risky... They just said it was 1mph shy of being a cat 3...

They had incredible video of a skyscraper with it's windows bowing and flexing in the wind with the reflected light patterns changing. I think I had an office in that skyscraper and it's windows always flexed with bad weather.

It only has to be 111 mph to be a cat 3.

They're getting 911 calls from Galveston. Apparently people are waist deep in water on their second floor and want to be rescued while in the eye.

The wind is incredibly loud now it's blowing the rain in sheets. I've only seen this with tornado weather.

They just said it would be 3 weeks to a month to restore all the power back to normal... I think all electric and phone cables should be underground, that way there wouldn't be so much outages... Eye should be upon you very shortly...

Helen

It's 3 million without power now. I still have power, not even a flicker. Guess having the power underground really paid off.The wind noise is drowning everything out now, really quite frightening. The neighbor's garbage can has been moving back and forth across his driveway, his recycling blue box is nowhere to be seen. It's too dark to see what happened to the folding chairs that the other neighbor left out.

I doubt that anyone's sleeping in your area tonight, except maybe the children... They just said you could get up to 12"s of rain by the time its all said and done...

I'm just on the leading edge of that big yellow orange swath, probably still in the green so it's going to get a lot worse before I even get close to the eye. Can't see how you can sleep through this wind.

that's enough to break them off... Hope your power stays on.

Oh oh, power just flicked.

My little oak trees are being bent over by 30 to 40 degrees with the gusts.

Looks like the power is out for good now.    Wind is still picking up.   There's about 15 minutes left on the UPS for my DSL and wireless base station, laptop probably has about  an hour of power left so I'll be shutting down to save battery power for emails via the cell phone GPRS.On Sep 13, 2008, at 3:58 AM, angelbear1129@... wrote:Stay safe , I'm going to lay down for a while, its almost 5am here, girls will be getting up around 7/8.  Will check on you then...  Keep postin to get you through this, others may wake up soon and can join ya too...  Hope your power is still on...((( Safe Hugs )))Helen "When life's problems seem overwhelming, look around and see what other people are coping with. I'm at the southern edge of the storm now, the lake is right at the

brim, it's raining like crazy and the wind is steady but nothing like

it was last night. I'm without power, the UPS won't last long so

I'll be loosing the DSL soon, also the laptop is down to about 45

minutes of power so I'll be just sending this email, checking the

news and then shutting down again. Somehow, the trees have made it,

I could've sworn they would be pretzels. The wind and rain got to

the point where you couldn't see a thing last night but then that may

also have been because the power was out so there was no lights.

Looks like it's close to being over.

Regards,

Hi ,

That was very nice of the friend to help your sister... Yes, it is remarkable how everything had come together for your sister, some of us would call that a (miracle :o) I know nothing about Hawaii, Are the islands connected with bridges or you have to fly or ferry to each one? Just curious. Keep us updated and please tell your family my Prayers and thoughts are with you all...

Hello

Just received a new update from my brother in law. The transfer to the rehab unit had been postponed a few days due to an infection with the central IV, fortunately the infection responded to vancomycin, apparently an antibiotic of last resort. It's horrible how bacteria has been becoming resistant to so many of our antibiotics these days.

They've discontinued the lumbar punctures, apparently the pressure on the brain is almost down to normal.

The HMO refused to pay the $7,000 for the medical transfer flight so they arranged to have a friend who's a nurse that worked at the clinic where my sister worked to act as an in-flight nurse on a commercial flight. Apparently, my sister was lecturing smokers at the airport, telling them that if they didn't stop, they could become brain damaged like she is.

It's truly remarkable how everything has been working out, with the SAH occurring just before my brother in law left for work hence there was someone to call 911, the rapid response of the fire department and the airlift to Maui hence bringing her to the stroke center within four hours and the fact that the stroke center had the Dyna CT which had only been just installed the year before (there's only three such machines in the western US). Apparently, had the stroke occurred almost anywhere else and or at any other time, the outcome could've been very different.
