[ ] Social Skills Workshop: Sat. Jan. 8

Navigating the Social Maze for Children with High-Functioning Autism or Aspergers Syndrome

Sat. Jan. 8, 2011

9am- noon

Yankee Trace

10000 Yankee St.

Centerville, OH 45458

During the workshop, we will discuss the challenges children with Autism face in regards to social interaction skills. The purpose of this workshop is to give parents and professionals a better understanding of social deficits children with Autism often encounter, some pre-requisite skills needed to treat some of these challenges, and to lay the framework for the set of skills parents, and other caregivers, need to teach some of these social skills. Various strategies will be discussed including but not limited to modeling, priming, direct instruction, role-play, video-modeling, social stories and comic-strip conversations. Additionally, participants will have the opportunity to view various social skills curriculums.

Social skills are a group of skills which people need to interact and communicate with others. Social rules and relations are created, communicated and changed in verbal and nonverbal ways. Our social skills provide others with information of how we should be judged, treated perceived and ultimately accepted by society. Appropriate social skills allow us to work as team members, problem solve successfully and behave according to societal rules.

I would be happy to do this. Is there an organization that would help organize

an appropriate location, and help with advertising in your area? I enjoy

providing training opportunities. Feel free to e-mail offlist.
