Hi, Patty (until I know) parkinsons sucks I was diagnosed in "99" on my birthday and it was a relief to have a name for what was wrong with me. I was told to take a lot of vitamins and to drink ensure. The shaking uses so much energy that people with Parkinsons uses up as much as a runner or football player. The doc's now know that I had it from the time that I was in my teens. What stage are you at, that means how bad are your shakes. I live in Kansas LMay

Hi, Budda,

My husband hasn't been formally diagnosed, but we are pretty sure that he is an

Aspie, because my son is and dh is almost exactly like him. I also have a lot

of the traits of Asperger's, although I don't know if I have enough to be

considered " on the spectrum " . We've made it this far, although sometimes life

is rocky.

It's good that you're getting treatment for the depression. I've read that

people on the ASD spectrum have a greater tendency toward depression, and my

family's experience certainly bears that out. All three of us struggle with it.

Some of the behaviors and sensory issues that go along with Asperger's can make

life, especially social life, more complicated than it is for neurotypicals.

But look at it this way: if they do give you a positive diagnosis, it gives you

a place to start in learning how to cope with it. If you get a diagnosis, you

will have a name and a " face " for what is going on with you.

If they tell you that you have Asperger's, I recommend that you read about it,

even if most of the books on the subject are about kids and not adults. A lot

of these books can be found in the parenting section or the mental health

section of your bookstore or library. Knowing more about it will probably help

you feel better about it. And Asperger's isn't all bad by a long shot.

People on the spectrum often have unusual gifts like the ability to concentrate

intensely on one subject and a head for intricate details. If you read about

it, you'll find out more about this kind of thing (I love books, lol. I almost

always recommend reading). You might want to check out books by Temple Grandin

- she is an autistic woman who has an advanced college degree and an interesting

career in working with animals.

You may be able to find a support group near you that will help you feel less

alone.

I hope this helps, and I wish you luck in dealing with your diagnosis.

Remember, there are a lot of adults with Asperger's out there, some of whom have

never been diagnosed. You're in good company!

> I am a 46 year old man and I have been told recently that I might have

Aspergers. I have been going thru some BAD depression for about a year now and I

went in as a Out Patient in a local mental health Hospital were I went in at 8am

and went home at 4pm for 8 days for depression and suicidal thoughts NO

attempts. While I was there my case worker told me she thought I may have

Aspergers and I should get tested. Well it took me 2 months to find a way to get

it done since I have been out of work for more than 2 years. I got tested last

week and I go back this week for the results. I must say I am nerves about what

they will tell me.
