Guest guest
Hi everyone-we are more or less looking for some " success " stories from parents who have had good dealings with their school districts in terms of getting what was needed for their child. In our case, our son is entering kindergarten next year and we are looking at advocating full inclusion for him in order for him to get the " pull out " time that he will probably need. He also needs to be with and does pretty well with peers. How is it typically done in your district, i.e., are they letting your son/daughter stay for core teaching time or just introducing them during 'specials' first? Our son is pretty high-functioning ASD, but also has AD/HD but no meds (and that is not going to change until he is older). He absolutely needs an aide with him, hands down. We must work with public schools to start with for several reasons and are willing to relocate to another city, but are just wondering if there are other parents here who have been in a similar situation. THanks in advance for your help/advice/comments!
Guest guest
Hi,I was in the Hudson City Schools for the past two years and they are wonderful with my daughter also diagnosed with Autism and ADHD and they pushed to have her on meds but they made her more aggressive so I told them she wasn't staying on them along with my doctor. Sorry to say but I had to move this Summer and we had to change school districts and we are now in Streetsboro. We are in our third week of school and she is still in the resource room, no OT, no Speech yet. I keep asking and they say they are loading her IEP in their computer, probably next week she will be set up for these services, . . . When at Hudson she was in a regular class room with an aide and was academically on target but did have to be removed for sensory breaks. She loves school and hated to even come home she likes school so much.At Streetsboro, after 3 weeks she is still in the resource room, she has gotten hit by other kids 3 times, including being hit with a book, hair pulled while sitting in a bean bag chair minding her own business. I am sick over this but don't know what to do. Is this typical of other public school special needs class rooms? Was I spoiled at being in the Hudson public schools? I wrote a note to the teacher asking why she is getting hurt by other kids so often. Can't wait to hear back. I told the teacher that my daughter loves school and I don't want her to not like school because kids are hurting her.Sorry to ramble, just frustrated, wish I could move back to Hudson where she has all her kind friends she loved so much.BarbFrom: with.hope <mjnatran@...>Subject: [ ] For those NOT on scholarship: Full Inclusion Date: Tuesday, September 7, 2010, 9:26 AM Hi everyone-we are more or less looking for some "success" stories from parents who have had good dealings with their school districts in terms of getting what was needed for their child.
