Guest guest
Prednisone has been known to increase the frequency of the fevers, but shorten the actual fever cycle so it goes away quicker. Have you looked into a tonsillectomy?
Guest guest
Yes, my son has gone off off of his 24 day schedule several time. Just a few months ago, he fevered 10 days after his last one and it was do to the croup. Although children do not get as many viruses as other kids, they still can pick up a virus, ear infection, cold etc. Regards,

Guest guest
I knew it shortned the cycle but this much? So unfair. He seems to be missing out on so much school, activities and just everyday normal comfort. We do need to look into T & A.. but I was so ready to just ride it out with the Pred every 10 weeks or so. Not every weeks. R
Guest guest
Amelia has been on pred. for 8 months now. For the first 4 months the fevers did come closer together. She was on a regular schedule of every 28 days. Then it went to every 10 days. Then the fevers did start spacing out. This last time she went 72 days! She is now on day 23 fever free. I really did not want to use the pred, but I am very glad we gave it a shot. Hang in there! Barb
Guest guest
Hello, My name is Suzanne and I'm relatively new to this group. I've been quietly reading and I wanted to introduce my self and my 6.5 year old sons problems. I come from a long line of Doctors within my family and extended family members and its very discouraging for all involved. My son in fact today has broke out into his fever average 21or 28 day monthly cycle usually 104 temp for 2-3 days. Horrible puss sacks with swollen tonsils. He has also ulcer pains within his stomach so eating becomes very light for a few days. His total cycle lasts anywhere between 4-6 days. He usually never complains of pain but his attitude is very off he's normally a very sweet child when he's not sick but cranky as all on the first day of his cycle but then relatively fine, kind of like a warning sign of whats going to be happening in the next few hours. I thank God that he's an under sensitive child for pain because the swollen tonsils and stomach ulcers are extremely painful but he's a tough kid But he gets very tired as if had Mono. Which we did in fact test him for but negative and positive for , by our ENT and Immune and Disease Specialists of San Diego. We have been fighting this since last May. Our Primary Physician suggested to be seen by an ENT because he had been treated 4 times straight with antibiotic and his systems were like clock work. So we went to an excellent ENT practice had put him on a very nasty antibiotic for chronic tonsillitis. Well 2 more times back to back month she suggested a T & A. BUT she waned us to see the Disease and Immune Specialists for a third opinion, she thought she was dealing with but wanted their opinion before surgery. Which was scheduled 1 month later. Well thank goodness we did see the IDS they 100% said that he does not need a tonsillectomy. When these Doctors checked his tonsils they were perfect and in fact they they are for the 3 weeks that he's not sick. His suggestion was unless he has apnea than do not do the T & A. It won't be the cure for his . T & A is done for chronic tonsillitis in order to have this then the tonsils will remain in somewhat a painful ongoing process for my son after his cycle he's good as new. Healthy Tonsils do have the duties that are worth having. Also if your immunity is weak end than surgery is the last place that I want to send my child, the risk of getting an infection from the surgery is higher than the normal case. My father as been a chief surgeon and still performing surgeries for almost 33 years and believe me you want a strong immunity system going into to surgery. So all Doctors agreed to not to perform the surgery for the time being, We love Motrin! and Tylenol they help the pain and when he's taking to medicines he's looks fine and we just keep things a bit quieter. We mark our calendars and make sure that we do not overload the day before. The prednisone does help shorten the times but can actually have the cycles become closer between as early as 14-21-28 day monthly cycle. The concerns that putting my child on a steroid when knowing that there is a price to pay for this treatment....not quite worth it for us. We are going to to begin the Singular he has other allegory issues so that's going to be a win win situation. From what many Doctors have told our family they just honestly don't know! What we do know like a women's period that comes every month so will our sons painful discomforts will happen. So this is why we love Motrin and Tylenol. Thank you for taking the time to read on whats going on with my little guy. If anyone can suggest anything please do! I hate seeing my child sick soooooooo much!!! Thank you, Suzanne
