Guest guest
Hi. My son, Raffaele, almost 7 years old and has been fevering monthly for about 4 years now. He too had a one-time change of cycle within the past 3 months. From the usual 25-26 days to just 16 days in Sept. (I have not made a log of my son's fevers before then and I just learned about recently). When the fever came on the 16th day, the fever just lasted for 1 & 1/2 days without other symptoms except for the inflamed tonsils. The fever was also manageable with paracetamol. My son also got chills the day before he got the fever. When my son doesn't have the fever, he sweats far more than anyone I know. I don't know if this has any significance to the illness.
Guest guest
Hi, Our peditrician says that chills is usually a sign of an infection, either a virus or bacterial infection. It happened to us a few times that , age 3.5, had chills and turned out not to be a episode. Usually he does not get chills with a episode. Guest guest
I think every kid I'd different. My son got chills with EVERY episode. The chills were really bad, his lips and fingers and toes would also turn blue from the chills. Guest guest
Hello Regarding chills- it is perfectly normal for a child with or without to have chills when they have a fever and their temperature is rising. They are shaking as their body is trying to regulate to the higher temperature. We have been told this by countless specialists. Guest guest
Our son sweats like crazy. If he's covered at night he sweats. When he runs around he looks as if he's taken a bath. Much more than the other kids who are playing right alongside him. Interesting to say the least. Regards, Nick Handrinos
Guest guest
my son is ALWAYS hot, sweating....we actually make him sleep in short sleeves in dead winter!! I wonder if this is common in kids??
Guest guest
Thanks everyone for your input. I have come to the conclusion that this was just a shorter episode....it ended on the 2nd day and shes been normal ever since. Guess I'll just count ahead 14 days and then 14 more....she have one at one of those times.....bummer....that puts us right into christmas. : ( I haven't been given any meds to try yet.(my dr still has me tracking her fevers)...so we have nothing to help if she gets one then....poor baby....I'm hoping that her cycle is off a little this next time so she can enjoy her toys instead of sitting in my arms miserable. Guest guest
My son (8) gets chills with every episode as well. That is how we know the fever is coming. He also gets very whiney the day before his fever. You can just notice the change in him. Even though his fevers are cyclic, it seems he does get his fever when there are times of stress. Not major stress, but like when things are more exciting....like when his cousins come to visit. Usually when they leave or are about to leave, he starts his fever. It's kinda weird. I asked his doctor about it and she said that stress is not a factor, but I totally disagree. Anyway, about the chills....he gets the chills hours before he gets his fever. I will take his temp and it will be normal or low when he has the chills. Then his fever just spikes and within an hour his fever will get to 102. This is a crazy illness. It seems like they would have more definate info on it. Sharon
Guest guest
Hi Sharon, I also believe it is stress related. When my Daughter was 2 years old and began to get the fevers, before we knew what she had, she would always get them close to some kind of exciting or stressful event. I wonder if anyone else noticed the same with their childrent. Orit
Guest guest
I also believe it is stress/excitement related! I can't tell you how many trips to Disneyland ended with us pushing motrin in Tommy and him not laying in the stroller (yet no one else would get it!). It also seemed around the holidays...etc. I also feel it is sleep related. When he doesn't get enough sleep (we have alot of evening things going on) the episodes seem to be worse. Prior to the diagnosis, I thought his body was sensitive and couldn't handle being " Run-down " . Anyone else notice this? Amy Mom of Tommy age 6 fevering since age 2 1/2 , Lucy age 4 fever free, ny age 1 fever free (yet he had two " viruses " with high fevers 3 weeks apart...hoping it was a fluke!) Guest guest
Yes! has just started to FINALLY sleep through the night at almost two years old. She seems so much happier and healthier and her fevers seem to be spreading apart on their own. Don't know if it is related but I hope it continues!
