Guest guest
Hello everyone, Our daughter, three years old, just had her tonsills and adenoids out on Friday - I am grateful for all the tips posted here as I have looked them all up and used many - however - we can not get her to swallow her tylenol with Codeine....it smells awful and she will not swallow it down....any tips?? also - any experience with the after care and how long it takes to drink would be helpful. We are on day three now and she is barely drinking a thing - scared to swallow I think - she is interested in food but not drinking. I'm getting nervous. Thanks !! Guest guest
Tiffani, I am not sure when you posted this and you may already be through the healing process. Our son just had his T & A on Aug 5th and is eating normal again. He actually ate applesauce the first 2 days and drank water. I would get him started by holding a cold bottled water and letting him sip out of it. He is 2.5yr so he spills it if he does it on his own. He would see me periodically with the bottled waters, so this was a treat for him. Once he got about a dozen or so sips down I would offer him his sippy cup and he drank on his own. The trick I found was the water had to be really cold, either from being kept in the fridge or from putting ice in it. One the 4th day he had more difficulty and we actually used a new squirt gun to get him to drink. We put the cold water in it (feels better on the throat cold) and he let us squirt it in his mouth. It was a game for him and we were able to get the water down that way. I also used a new the tank child's tumbler with a little water in it for him to sip from. That worked also. He did eat banana the day after surgery, I was very surprised. I called the nurse about him asking for one and she said as soon as they want it they can have anything that doesn't have sharp edges (no chips, nuts, hard crackers, etc) He actually surprised me with his willingness to eat, he didn't like the feeling of an empty stomach. But we had to get creative, because he wouldn't touch any of the usual things. He didn't want ice cream, jello, juice, or pudding. I made oatmeal and mashed a banana in it and added a little milk. It had to be cool though, warm was not good on his throat. We got soft breakfast type cereal bars with the fruit filling - he liked those alot. The worst of it at home was when his ears started hurting him about day 5-7. Also, he did not do well on the tylenol with codeine either. I only gave it to him one day and stopped after that. He had really fought taking it, and I think he had bad dreams because of it. He is now 13 days after surgery and we are hoping for the best. He was actually due on the 9th for an episode and would be due again on the 23rd, keeping our fingers crossed it worked for him! Wishing the same for your daughter! Hope this helps you.
