My son is 5, HFA. We do individual speech therapy, communication social group (facilitated by a speech pathologist) and OT -- outside of school.

1 in 91 Children born in the US will have Autism

Auties are Awesome.

Autism Awareness -- pass it along.

[ ] OT/PT

I'm interested in knowing what additional (beyond what is received in school) types of therapies families do. We do extra speech and I keep hearing I should be doing OT for sensory issues and/or PT for low muscle tone.

It is based on what your child needs. We began a home-based ABA (well, verbal behavior) program when DS had just turned 4. It was the single best thing we ever did for him. This was in addition to his preschool. Currently, DS is in half day kindergarten, we still run his home program (16 hrs/week), horseback riding, adaptive swim, speech, and social skills group. We did do OT, but we can't find anyone we really like at the moment. Good OT's are really hard to come by. This may sound like a lot, but much of it is fun. Our DS needs time spent being engaged. Every child is different. At one time, we took private yoga for muscle tone. We are on the autism scholarship. If your child needs specific therapies, your school district should be providing them. Good
