Guest guest
Hi Even if it's , the steroids don't work for EVERYONE, but they do for the vast majority. Also even if it does work, it doesn't confirm as steroids also work for various other periodic fever syndromes. For us, the steroid has worked immediately on about 10 occasions and once we had to give a second dose 2 days later as the fever came back. What we did find, and this was confirmed by many parents on this board as well, is that it's best to wait until the second fever spike (i.e. give tylenol or whatever you use on the first spike, wait for it to settle, and on the second HIGH spike give the steroid). We have found that if the fever isn't as high and other kids around us have fever viruses that it wasn't a episode usually but the virus. Hard to tell for us as we don't get the mouth sores etc. Hope this helps Take care Inga ___________________________________________________________ For Good helps you make a difference http://uk.promotions./forgood/

Guest guest
I am just confused I cannot stand it! So this time she is not super high with fever...103.2 has been the highest but every time she is sick it's not necessarily high so I don't get why they think bc I thought HIGH fever was one of the hallmark signs?! gave her 6ml of orapred Wed when her fever had been 102.3 and broke after Tylenol but went back to 102.3 after it wore off. Well now fever stayed 101 yesterday during the day but by evening she was 103.5 again and has been ever since. I wasn't told to give her more steroid and I don't like giving steroids on top of Motrin and Tylenol. I thought it was supposed to stop it which means less Tylenol and Motrin and shorter episodes.I feel like what am I doing to her constantly pumping her with medicines and she fights so much when I give her anything that one week a month this is a real issue. Mentally I am on the brink of losing it! I guess nothing is written in stone. I really feel like her ID doctor is not giving me answers. Thanks Inga

Guest guest
, We would have to rotate tylenol and motrin every 2 1/2 hrs apart and that still would only get the fever down to 101 maybe 100 and we did this almost every month for almost a year. in feb and march of last year before the diagnosis we were having to give it back to back for a full week every couple of weeks. last year was pretty rough for us Ramsey was put in the hosp. twice. because we could not break his fevers. You have to do what you have to do when giving medicines. We now use prednisone which is a miracle drug. although this last fever prednisone took 2 1/2 hrs to work and I had to give tylenol too. and 3 days later he had another fever. I think only adverse effects with motrin and tylenol is if you give it in extremly high doses for a long period of time.
