Hi,

First I would like to thank everyone who wrote me back! Just knowing that there

are others out there helps me deal with my son's illness.

As for the removing of the tonsils and adenoids our ENT said it's worth a try.

But our Immune and Disease Specialists did not recommend the surgery.

Indicating that it most likely would not be the problem solver and in fact puts

him at risk for surgery....Seeing that stress seems to sometimes jump start his

cycle this would be the last thing we would want to occur while we were trying

to help prevent reoccurring symptoms. Our specialist at Children's in San Diego

memo-ed out ENT highly disagreeing with the T & A. So what we've been doing for

over a year, we give him Motrin and Tylenol for fever and pain and let him

rest..... lots of Popsicle treats. Seeing that he is completely allergic to

Dairy, Popsicle's are his cool treat...His puss sacks that he gets on his

swollen tonsils are severe but are not life threatening, meaning that his

breathing passages have not been compromised. Our Immune Spec. had indicated

that is when he would recommend the

surgery if his air flow was compromised. Twice close calls but predisone took

care of it right away. We do not like to pump him up with that stuff because of

the long term effects but when you need it you need it! As for the ulcers that

he gets in his stomach which causes him to feel pain and lowers his eating

habits which normally are wonderful, we just let time take it's course.

We had to stop playing soccer last year and choose not to play this

year again, just too much. But he's in gymnastics once a week and

loves it! He' a very active boy, but during his cycle he crashes hard

but it generally lasts for 4-5 days and than all ulcers poof!! And all

else gone too!!!

Please do not think that we are passive about any of this but no one really

knows the solutions. So a few doses of fever medications that are needed every

3.5 weeks that's what we have on the calendar. I come from a very long line of

surgeons and specialists who are all just has baffled. They are all trying to

find the most invasive and effective solution for this special little boy who is

so brave and strong....

Really I think since there is no totally right way, you must do what feels the

best for you and your child...For our child even though his symptoms are rough

he generally doesn't miss much school for right now.....Since he's not a harm to

anyone else we just evaluate the time of the season for other children's

situations......such as flu season etc...So he doesn't catch anything. So for

the time we are doing without surgery and taking it month to month.

I hope this helps out at all.

Thank you to all,

Suzanne
