Guest guest
It's been quite a while since I posted here last. I've been staying busy, as usual. My grandma is doing about the same. Her pain level is staying fairly manageable, and she's getting used to eating more often. The last couple of weeks have been rough, though, because she has had a lot of trouble with nausea. At first, I thought it was because she wasn't getting enough Carafate. So, I tried to make sure she got 3 doses every day for a few days. That didn't seem to affect it. We took her to her gastroenterologist a few days ago, and he took her off the Carafate completely, and prescribed a patch for the nausea. I think it's called Scopalamine (not sure about the spelling). She's only been using it one day, and they said it would take 2 to 3 days for it to work. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Something seems to be helping a little bit; the nausea is not as persistent as it was. Other than that, she's doing okay. She still will feel weak sometimes, but I think I may still need to work on her diet a bit. She may not be getting quite the right amount of something to keep her strength up. She's still having a fair amount of trouble sleeping at night, too. She can sleep somewhat during the day, and I encourage it, even though she says she feels like she's sleeping too much. Some nights she sleeps fairly well for a few hours and then she'll be up the rest of the night, other times she will be up until 5 or 6 a.m. and then go to sleep and sleep soundly until noon. I tell her it's best to sleep when she can and not worry about it being " too much " or that she's sleeping during the day. As for me, I have taken up a new hobby, when I have time. I've started writing short stories. I'm working on my first fan fiction story right now. For those who don't know what fan fiction is, it's where you write a story based on, and using, parts of an existing series or book. You use your own imagination to change or create an event different from the book or show, but use the parts already created to make it happen. It's really turning out to be fun. After I do a few of these, I may start writing original fiction; but the fan fictions are a good place to start. Oh, and for anyone that might have been wondering, I got through Hurricane Gustav okay. We did have some damage, but nothing severe. The worst things that happened were that a couple of ceiling tiles in the kitchen fell, and we were without power for a week. But, it could have been much worse. Hope everyone is okay, and that you all have a Happy Halloween and a good weekend.
