100 days Fever Free!

Just had to write a note that Dani has been fever free for 100 days.

Last fever was 11/16/07 and T & A on 12/11/07. She is now 31 months old

(2.5 years old) and fevering since 7 months.

For those unfamiliar - We used Prednisone, but encountered significant

behavioral changes and shortening of duration between episodes - so we

had to scale way back on the Prednisone. We also tried Cimetidine for 4

months without affect. Given she needed ear tubes placed in for a

second time, we chose to do the T & A. I must say she seems to be a

happier child - even when she has a cough or runny nose. She has only

run one short 3 hour fever of 101 (we think it was related to some

congestion she had -- but it disappeared on its own).

I know it is a difficult decision, but we've noticed wonderful side

benefits - she sleeps harder at night, takes longer naps, and has been

potty trained in 2 weeks (which had been tried once before, but when she

was sick, it was hard to take her to the potty every 30-60 minutes and

that kept setting us back). Not sure which of these can be attributed

to T & A versus simply growing up - but it seems overall she is happier

and healthier.

I do recommend making sure the children are of significant weight prior

to trying this, and planning to be home or have a very diligent

caregiver for 2 weeks. We are fortunate that Dani was about 34 pounds

(tall and stocky, not just heavy), because she lost about 3 pounds in

that first week post-T & A, because she ate NO food for 7 days. She has

bounced back and gained a pound or two on top of where she was.

I pray for all of your children and hope that more is discovered about

this odd disorder and any associated fever disorders.
