Seizure

Hi ,

I thought you might like to know that I had an 'out of the blue' seizure too. It

happened probably a year before the right adenoma was caught during a CT scan of

my chest.

I had worked a midnight shift and slept through the day. We decided to go out to

dinner with my kids and their SOs. Dinner was served. I ate a few bites and felt

'odd'. It wasn't a panic or anxiety type feeling. It was a 'knowing' that

something was radically off. The off feeling settled in my stomach. I got up to

go to the bathroom to splash water on my face. When I closed the door, I knew I

was going down. I walked out and bent down to brace my fall and I was out cold.

I remember waking up with a pronounced inspiration and then felt a cold cloth on

my face. EMTs arrived, loaded me into the ambulance, started an IV, and put a

mask on me. They asked about my home meds but my speech was slurred. They

started yelling at me for not answering them. I did say, " I'm gonna' puke " , and

started filling the mask with vomit. It was shooting out the holes. I laugh

about that now but it wasn't very funny at the time.

At the hospital, they drew labs, did an EKG, and sent me for a CT of my head

with contrast. I was still having difficulties with my speech and tried to tell

them the dye makes me vomit. Too late. Dye + more puking. Most of the time I

spent in the ER (probably about 8 hours) I was post-ictal and slept. Because I

was out of network and because the CT was clean, they gave me a choice to be

admitted for observation or follow up with my PCP. I went home.

I never had another one but ended up in the ER twice on the third day in after

starting an SSRI (Effexor and Celexa). The new doctor I was seeing in polis

refused to prescirbe my tricyclic. Effexor caused anaphylaxis. Celexa caused

SSRI syndrome.

It's always encouraging when someone else has experienced similar events. I find

just knowing can lessen the stress.
