Had colonoscopy last week. showed I have diverticulitis. A very common finding

if you are over 40. I also fould I have a very long colon. Longer then the tube

they used. Only could look at 80% of colon.

What is diverticulosis?

Diverticulosis is a condition that develops when pouches (diverticula ) form in

the wall of the colon (large intestine ). These pouches are usually very small

(5 to 10 millimeters) in diameter but can be larger.

Treatment is eating a high fiber diet. Belive DASH is high in fiber.

Suggest you keep a close eye on it, my brother died of complications from a

ruptured colon. His diverticulitis was attributed to anti-rejection medicine

that he had to take for the 13 years after his kidney transplant.

My sister developed complications from it and spent Christmas in the hospital

(she has been DXed for about 20 years). She went home after 6 days and then had

to go back and and have part of her colon removed on Jan. 10th. Her vacation in

SC got extended, she is a teacher in Woodstock!

Suggest you keep a close eye on it, my brother died of complications from a ruptured colon. They say there is no know cause but % of having it increases if you are over 40

most have it that are over 80.

Now that I know I have it I will keep an eye on it.

Not that I drink beer. But you can drink it up to the time they do colonoscopy.

Not to worry , You get 20 minutes to lay back and relax! Seriously my

brother waited too long to go to the hospital and then they waited too long in

the ER (6 hours) before they figured out what was going on! My sister learned

from his mistakes!
