I had an appointment with a Dr. today that I was referred to for

Hypogammaglobulinemia. He said that he worked with Dr. Conn at U of M. His

name is Dr. Penner. He is a Hematologist and internal medicine. I did

mention that I had been talking with a doc on this site but did not get to

mention Dr. Grim's name. He was great to talk with, spent over an hour with me

and agreed that my case is a bit difficult. He thinks that something systemic

is causing my immune system to go crazy. He also thinks that the sores that

keep coming in my mouth my be herpes that has come from the immune system

depression. He is gonna do more tests and see if he can pinpoint the problem.

I am so happy that he is taking this further. My PCP put me on Aldactone and I

am just waiting to get back into the endo.

Maybe this doctor will be able to help me with all of the symptoms.

Can always file a complaint with the state medical board. Doesn't cost you any

thing. Dr has to spent his time replying to board and may be fined or have there

license suspended.

Just had 2 days worth but my pressure was lower at the doctor office yesterday

than it has since I stopped all BP meds. Getting my K checked in 3 weeks. I am

still taking the K supplement with Aldactone, is that ok? I know my K is still

low cause of the muscle pain when walking.

I say great and yes! Although a two day sample is rather short it is a positive

sign! Your doctor is treating you correctly by monitoring your K as s/he

adjusts your Aldactone. My doctor puts me on a 2-week recall for labs when she

monkeys with anything that affects K. (I've been off Spiro for 2 1/2 months and

it was down to 4.2 last Tue - it had been running 4.6-4.8 on Spiro. Note I

never had a real problem with low K)

Do you monitor BP at home? I take mine every morning and graph it when I want

to see how it is trending. (Also lets you see why you shouldn't have had that

extra piece of Pizza the night before!)

Keep it up, you are on roll! ;>)

I think I'm getting confused because it looks like we have two cases comingled

on this thread. Katt, I think you are the one that had surgery a month ago,

right? Were you on a MCB before surgery? I'm not sure why you were on the 3

meds you were on but you changed the playing field by stopping them at the same

time unless your doctor told you to. In fact, I'm surprised your Endo is not in

charge now that surgery is over but maybe I'm not understnding that!

Sorry, did not mean to confuse you or highjack the post. Just answering a

question that was asked. Continue, with your previously scheduled post. haha

, no harm done, it happens all the time! I was just a little confused

because your stories were so different! (I can blame it on brain fog after

being off spiro for 2 1/2 months!)

Katt, now I think we are onto something. MCB = Spironolactone or Eplerenone,

the two medicines that work with PA. Verapamil is one of the few meds they use

that has less effect on testing for PA and is the med of choice for that purpose

at NIH.

You are correct that the meds you listed are not effective and now I understand

why you stopped them. They should have started you on Spironolactone after

testing while you prepared for surgery. This would have been your best bet to

get BP in better control and if you added DASH you may have decided to forego

the surgery. (This is the first treatment Dr. Grim recommends and it works very

well for many.)

IMO your Endo should have been involved before and immediately after surgery and

continually now until you are well! I know nothing about Kaiser but if I didn't

get the service I paid for and deserved I'd be exploring the progression of the

chain of command! I needed a mammogram and my provider (the VA) required I go

404 miles for it, women can get one within 50 miles of home. Nobody could

change that including the Chief of Medical Services. I made one phone call and

now there is no longer any gender descrimination! (I simply called my Senator's

office, who happens to be on the Armed Services Committee, and offered him an

opportunity to Fix it before I filed a Class Action Sexual Descrimination

lawsuit!) So far in addition to him thanking me I've had appreatition expressed

by my PCP, the Patient Advocate and the Quality Manager at the local VA! (QM

even said it had been a problem for a long time! She's lucky I was in one of my

calmer moods and need her for my next project so we didn't review her job

description!)

Stay on them and demand they provide the service you pay fore and deserve. So

what if they label you a " Bitch " , THEY MADE YOU THAT WAY!

Keep us posted, I care!

, Government Policy - you've probably never run into that! At the VA you have to go to another VA hospital if yours doesn't provide the service you need, otherwise they refer it locally via "Fee Basis".

Many years ago when female veterans were seen a lot less they developed a special manual on how to treat them and made the 50 mile limit for mammograms but because it is in a gender specific protocol the local VA determined it didn't apply to males! I simply pointed out we were pretty much the same "North of the Border" (Belt)! (Some bigger than others!)

Judging from the letter I got from Dr. Mayo-, the Network Director for the VA New England Healthcare System, he wasn't impressed by their literal interpretation! I can't for the life of me understand why the Chief of Medical Services, Patient Advocate, Quality Manager, or Patient Services Manager couldn't have figured it out! Maybe "Common Sense" isn't in their Job Description!

That's okay, I now have names and numbers to get pretty well up the system for my next project. I don't know if it will be "The million dollar question" or "The million dollar answer"! The QM was quite impressed when I spoke with her and told her I could guarantee that amount of savings and more and the side effect will be better healthcare for ~10% of her PTNs w/HTN! Actually in writing that I realized I need to change that to 100% since I will need to know whnt their real BP is for it to work! I got her attention, she gave me 90 minutes including her lunch hour and it was an unscheduled meeting!

I used to be a pretty good Project Leader/Analyst and this one doesn't look that bad! I hope to rough out a proposal next week and see if I can sell it. Do you want to be part of the review process? And more if you so desire and have the time! Think about it. (I be hitting up couple others once I have more time to think about it!)
