That's actually true until we get to one generation before my own: my maternal

grandmother and great grandmother lived well into their 90s; my

great-grandmother might have been over 100. They were ethnic Georgian, and

before Western industrialized food came to the country of Georgia, the Georgians

were some of the longest-living people in the world (see " The Long-Living of

Soviet Georgia " by G.Z. Pitskhelauri). My mother's generation, and my

generation, are another story. I'd estimate the average age of mortality to be

around 72. So much for progress.

I've been hearing " statins, statins, statins " for my genetic high cholesterol

for the past 20 years. No thanks.

Same here. My mom fell for the statins sales pitch, and ended up with permanent

muscle damage in her legs.
