Guest guest
Monosodium Glutamate, monosodium glutamate, MSG, glutamate - separating MSG-fact from MSG-fiction and industry propaganda -- Information about obesity and other effects of processed free glutamic acid (MSG) and where it is hidden in cosmetics, drugs, dietary supplements, vaccines, infant formula, and food fed to people and animals =============================================================================== Do you think the glutes are worried about the image of their neurotoxic product? Do you think that it worries them that consumers might notice that pharmaceutical companies are spending millions of dollars developing glutamate blockers with which to fight neurodegenerative disease like Alzheimer's disease, while they, the glutes, are pouring (often hidden) processed glutamate into our food? We've recently noticed their articles in major media--designed, we believe, to con consumers into buying their fiction that MSG is "safe," and, therefore, designed to con consumers into buying their product. ============================================================================ MEET THE REAL FDA (THE FOOD AND DRUG ADMINISTRATION)<> --The one that refuses to require that MSG in processed food be identified on food labels. --The one that allows manufacturers to claim "No MSG" on labels of foods that contain MSG. --The FDA that appointed G. Ebert, founder and chairman of [Ajinomoto's] International Glutamate Technical Committee, to the FDA Food Advisory Committee.--The FDA that approves both glutamate containing food ingredients and drugs to block the effects of glutamate. <> ================================ MOST COMPANIES PURCHASE ADVERTISING WHEN THEY WANT ADVERTISING. AJINOMOTO COMPANY, INC. and FRIENDS HAVE SIMPLY HAD FRIENDS AT GOURMET MAGAZINE AND THE WALL STREET JOURNAL DRESS UP GLUTAMATE INDUSTRY PROPAGANDA AND CALL IT NEWS. It would appear that the "glutes" are on the defensive because drug companies continue to produce glutamate blockers to fight the effects of neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's disease. That's right! Glutamate blockers are drugs designed to block the effects of glutamate, including the unnatural amounts of glutamate ingested in the form of processed free glutamic acid (MSG) found today in so much processed food. But for Ajinomoto Company, Inc., and the rest of the glutamate industry, being on the defensive means being on the offensive. That would explain the new rash of propaganda pieces dressed up as news articles that have begun to appear. -- In October, 2007, "MSG RISING," a piece of glutamate industry propaganda dressed up as a news release appeared in Gourmet Magazine. No letter to the editor will begin to undo the damage that has been done to people who might believe what they read in Gourmet Magazine; or the additional damage that will be done when the next barrage of glutamate industry propaganda claims that Gourmet Magazine has reported that MSG is "safe." So we have taken the liberty of reprinting a copy of the letter we wrote to Gourmet's Editor-in-Chief, Ruth Reichl, in an attempt to set the record straight. -- On December 8, The Wall Street Journal carried a piece of glutamate industry propaganda dressed up as a news release called "A New Taste Sensation." It was carried both in print and online. The article, By Katy McLaughlin, was made up of words (most of which were half truths) giving predictable glutamate industry spin. In every case, the whole truth was left out. Even the one allegedly non-industry source she quoted has a long history of sabotaging our efforts to expose the toxic effects of MSG. We shared our thoughts with The Wall Street Journal, but they seem not to have shared our thoughts with their readers. Click here to read what we had to say. Don't be surprised if you see more of this in newspapers, magazines, journals, and health letters, as well as on radio and TV. It all follows the same pattern. Read one and you will have read them all. Some people have called it free advertising. Don't you wonder if it's really free? ========================================================================== THANKS FROM A MOM WHOSE CHILD IS SEIZURE FREE -- NOW THAT THE MSG IS GONE FROM HIS DIET "Thank you sir. You have helped a child regain his life...." (Read excerpts from mom's letter.) ============================================ THE TRUTH IS OUT ABOUT CSPI Many years ago, the Truth in Labeling Campaign approached the Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI), led by its director, son, to ask for their help and support in making people aware of the toxicity of MSG and to require full disclosure of MSG on food labels. To our face, over the years, son has applauded full disclosure, while behind our backs, he has sabotaged our efforts. For the December 8-9 weekend edition of The Wall Street Journal, son, when asked, as executive director of a Washington “food safety advocacy group,” to comment, is quoted as saying only “I don't see normal amounts of MSG as posing a risk to the vast majority of people.” Why would son say nothing about the possible hazards of processed free glutamic acid (MSG)? Click here to read more. =============================================================== WARNINGS: Be wary of Trader Joe's brand All Natural Turkey -- from the store that says they don't carry anything that contains MSG. Cargill makes a Honey Suckle Turkey that claims "No MSG" on the label that shows the ingredients include turkey broth, salt, sugar, and natural flavoring According to a Washington Post article, about 30% of fresh chickens are enhanced with some kind of solution. Some, if not all of those solutions, contain ingredients that we recognize as containing processed free glutamic acid (MSG). We have had reports of MSG-type reactions.... Kettle Foods, Inc. must know that MSG is harmful because they are claiming "no MSG" on labels of Kettle brand Krinkle Cut Buffalo Blue Chips and Kettle brand Krinkle Cut Salt & Fresh Ground Pepper Chips" -- both of which contain MSG. We recently told readers about ConAgra Foods, Inc. advertising "NO MSG" on the label of a product that contains MSG -- on the label of a product being marketed to children. KNOW THIS: The ingredient that causes MSG reactions in MSG-sensitive people is manufactured/processed free glutamic acid. Manufactured/processed free glutamic acid is found in processed foods -- but it is not found in unprocessed or unadulterated meat, fish, or vegetables (including soybeans, mushrooms, and tomatoes.). Only meat, fish, or vegetables that have been subjected to some sort of manufacturing or fermenting process will cause MSG reactions in MSG-sensitive people who ingest amounts that exceed their tolerances for MSG. Dairy products, also, may cause MSG reactions in MSG-sensitive people because some dairy products are ultra-pasteurized, some are fermented, and many contain food additives such as carrageenan that are problematic for MSG-sensitive people. All manufactured/processed free glutamic acid contains contaminants (D-glutamic acid, pyroglutamic acid, and others), while the glutamic acid found in intact/unadulterated protein contains no contaminants. Some manufactured/processed free glutamic acid contains carcinogenic mono and dichloro propanols.KNOW THIS: With one exception, aspartame and processed free glutamic acid (MSG) cause identical adverse reactions in people who are sensitive to them. In addition, the free glutamic acid found in MSG and the free aspartic acid found in aspartame both have been shown to kill brain cells and cause subsequent endocrine disorders in laboratory animals. (We don't do such experiments on humans.)KNOW THIS: The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) appears to be more interested in protecting the profits of big business than in safeguarding the health of consumers. In September, 1969, then FDA Commissioner Ley testified before the Senate Select Committee on Nutrition and Health, presenting evidence from four studies that, he alleged, demonstrated that MSG was safe. It was later disclosed that two of the studies Commissioner Ley cited were incomplete and two did not even exist. The FDA has been looking out for the interests of Ajinomoto Co., Inc* since the GRAS (generally regarded as safe) status of "monososidum glutamate" was first examined (FDA/industry cooperation/collusion). To understand the scope of industry influence, including the infrastructure and grand design of deception created by Ajinomoto when the safety of "monosodium glutamate" was first challenged, look at How the Game is Played and a longer published article, "The Toxicity/Safety of Processed Free Glutamic Acid (MSG): a Study in Suppression of Information." Still not convinced? Then find out for yourself what jobs in industry--including positions in law firms and PR firms that do work for the food or drug industries--have been given to retired FDA employees. That's right. Follow the money. For those interested in the regulatory history relevant to processed free glutamic acid (MSG), go to Regulatory History. * Inventor of, and the world's leading producer of, monosodium glutamate; producer of additional MSG-containing ingredients; and owner and manufacturer of "aspartame."DO THIS: When a manufacturer tells you there is no processed free glutamic acid in a product that made you ill, ask the manufacturer to back up his claim by providing you with a "free amino acid" assay. If there is any free glutamic acid found, you can assume that the product contains MSG. When a manufacturer tells you that any MSG in his product couldn't possibly harm you because it is "naturally occurring," inform the manufacturer that both arsenic and hydrochloric acid are "naturally occurring," too.REMEMBER THIS: If MSG wasn't harmful, it wouldn't be hidden.
