Study links higher Canadian hospital spending to better patient outcomes.Bloomberg News (3/14, Armstrong) reports, "Canadian hospitals that spent the most on patient care may be getting a bigger bang for their buck than their US counterparts," according to a study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association. Modern Healthcare (3/14, Subscription Publication) reports that investigators "analyzed 30-day and one-year readmissions and death rates for adults admitted to Canadian hospitals between 1998 and 2008." The researchers found that "heart failure, hip fracture and colon cancer patients at high-spending Canadian hospitals were less likely to return to the hospital or die soon after being treated than those treated at low-spending hospitals."
