maggiekat7, I've been to Young at Mayo. He is one of the foremost experts in the world for PA. He was one of the authors of the international PA guidelines, but those guidelines do not mention a low-sodium diet. He'd never seem a urine sodium as low as mine which I found perplexing as he is so experienced. If you have a husband or boyfriend, I recommend you take him with you. Dr. Young was abusive to me at first but was reasonable the next day when I took my husband in with me. The first day, he had a pretty young doctor in training with him. Perhaps he had to impress her? I also think mentioning Dr. Grim was not good for me. Dr. Young seemed to be unsettled by that; competition I guess. He dismissed anything from this group in terms of symptoms, etc. He said the only symptoms of PA are from low K. He said I did not have hyperaldosteronism but then wrote " excess aldosterone " in my record. As far as your aldosterone levels varying, I think the normal bands are for upright. Does your report have any normal bands for reclining? Finally got a call back from his nurse who told me this is the reason she didn't call me sooner; she couldn't find my chart because the doc took it home. I do have 2 extra DVD's of it though no radiology report..

Hmmm. All my labs are flawed so far except K levels and thyroid levels. In

early Jan, I had been off bp meds for 5 weeks, and loaded with salt 4mg/day for

4 days, then tested for plasma aldo and plasma renin. My aldo was 15.2 and

renin 0.17. She did not do a baseline normal in any position without sodium,

nor did she run a simultanieous sodium excretion, so the results, essentially

are flawed and useless.

Then, Doc 3 ran 24 urine, and more plasma aldo, catachol, and metaneph levels,

and k but I was on Losartin and K and Losartin reduces aldo and renin, I guess.

Plus, I have read that I might not have been long enough off salt. Only 3 or 4

days. Might have still had effects of salt supression of those levels. So,

they laid me down, because I was faint and dizzy, and took the blood after about

20 min. Those labs came back with continued supressed renin, but aldo, only 4,

k 3.9 (on 4 ktabs). So....I assume they are flawed, but am not sure. Losartin

and laying down and salt? Maybe something is messing with the levels, maybe

not. I really don't know at this point.

So, my doc, who doesn't call me with my results or that he is sending my chart

to someone at Mayo for consult, sends my chart to this guy at Mayo, and I get

scanned today and I guess they'll all get back to me sometime. I am taking

Norvasc now and bp is normal when I wake up in am, but after standing and moving

around, goes up to 160's over 100's. All day. So, I doubled the Norvasc and

its the same. No effect.

I have seen 2 endos, 1 nephrologist, 1 gyno, and 1 cardiologist and now have a

Mayo doc looking at it all and have absolutely no idea why my bp abrubtly went

from low to high in Sept, '11. Simultaneously, my k went from normal to low in

Sept, '11. I began supplementing k then, in Oct, went to 2 k tabs, in Dec to

4...with 4 k is normal range. BP stays high when upright regardless of

Lisinopril, Losartin and Norvasc.

Labs in Oct, Nov, Dec document low k, flawed labs in Jan, I don't even have them

all yet. None of these docs call me or fax me results. I have a scan now, but

God only knows when I'll know what it shows or who will look at it without my

knowledge.

I am at a loss. I have decided to let all of them do whatever they are doing.

If I hear nothing by Mon. afternoon, I will make appt. with neph who ordered

scan to review and obtain copies of radiology report and all labs. If I cannot

get an appt or results next week, I will have MD request all records

from all of them and go there for further care and direction.

In the meantime, I give up. I wait.
