Guest guest
Hope someone can give me some advice. I went to another endo Tuesday who I think is actually going to be helpful. However, she wanted some bloodwork and had it done in her office and sent to the hospital for testing. I should have told her I would get it done at the hospital, but I didn't. Anyway, I tried to tell the medical assistant who took my blood about not having the tourniquet on too long and she had no knowledge of potassiums being false high if certain peramaters were not met. Got my results today and my potassium was 4.2 which is the highest it has ever been. I am having worse symptoms over the last weeks and just to stretch my arm out when I yawn, I am having muscle burning/pain like I have been over using but have done nothing. On the lab sheet it states collection time 1800 and received has nothing. I was drawn at 1425 so my guess is that it did not get to the hospital until 4 hours after draw. Does anyone know if at doc offices if they centrifuge there or just transport. I know that it can raise if takes more than 2 hours to separate. Should I go with this or ask to have it redone? I do not want to tick them off being that they are working with me. She is planning to do the saline infusion test and I want to be sure my K+ is high enough to make for a good test. Thanks, Stacey
