Guest guest
I am lost as to what you're reaching for. I realize that there are many causes of HTN but wasn't this the purpose for the adrenalectomy? And if 120/80 what is it your reaching for? I know they keep lowering the bar on "ideal" but there is also a norm for each individual too and 110/70 isn't optimal for everybody just like some pass out at a 60 blood sugar and some do just fine. Maybe 120/80 post surgery is perfect for your age and body type and as your body recovers. My question would be why, post surgery, which surgery is supposed to fix the problem, would you need to be on all those meds now? Unless something is amiss or the adrenalectomy in your mind was to fix a different problem (a cortisol and weight issue?). Diet and exercise, if you've now controlled for hyperaldosteronism by taking out the adrenal (and they work great with PA too), work wonders on blood pressure. Metoprolol didn't work anyway. But because BP is better 120s/80s diastolic runs a little high but it use to be 180s/110. Was taking 360 cardizem 320 divan 40 lisinopril 325 aspirin, minoxidil and HCL 12.5. All once a day plus 50 of toprol. No of them got pressure down.. How can they tell if toprol is working or adrenal gland doing it?

Guest guest
got to you before I could but then he should, he's the Pro! I was working on this exact subject to provide some insight to NIH and had just found the attached. (I supplied them a copy and printed one for my refridgerator, it often needs reminding!) My doctor was real happy when she " Finally got my BP under control at 110/61 " . Four nurses and I disgreed at 2:15 am that morning! (That's another story!) , in case you missed it, make sure you note that quote in the upper right: " Sweat is the best cardiovasculr agent known to man " -Stanford Cardiologist (I addes & !) Guest guest
Reminds me of what I told the PA at cardiac rehab when she was concerned about how much I was sweating - " Look, I'm working hard here. I used to sweat this much knitting. Guest guest
I guess u didn't see my previous blog. I was on all those meds before adrenolectomy and my BP is better but it fluctuates to 150/90s sometimes 150/100 even with metoprolol 100 mg. My question was directed to Dr. Grimm because he said BBCs and CCBs don't always work so I was asking what does. Because a doc is not going to be happy about getting a BP up and down. Other gland was fine and I don't have other med problems. > > > From: lyndarumph <lyndarumph@...> > Subject: Post adrenolectomy meds > hyperaldosteronism > Date: Thursday, April 19, 2012, 10:55 AM > > > > Â > > > > If BBCs and CCBs don't work for BP after adrenolectomy what does. Guest guest
Had adrenolectomy and had follow up and aldosterone was ok. Not out salting if that means eating too much salt. Just didnt know why BP fluctuating so much and taking 100 mg of metoprolol now. Just getting frustrated that's all. Just docs couldn't figure it out before and just want to be sure the same thing isn't going on again.Univ of Penn said right gland was ok. > > > If BBCs and CCBs don't work for BP after adrenolectomy what does. Guest guest
Saw the website on BP s and sweat. Very good. I do most of those anyway. I actually had lost 37lbs last year and was at the gym everyday exercising and eating only fish and vegetables and that was before the adrenolectomy and BP was in the 180s/110. BP was really good after adrenolectomy 4 weeks ago. Guest guest
Don't know if they did biopsy of R gland only the AVS. FHx the elderly that died was from altzheimers and old age some r still living. Mother had HTN but died from scleroderma. Don't know father or his family. Now my BP has been as low as 100/80s-130s/90s. Just wondering if metoprolol is working. Took spironolactone before surgery didn't like side effects that's why I chose surgery. > > > > > > > If BBCs and CCBs don't work for BP after adrenolectomy what does. Metoprolol didn't work anyway. Guest guest
Is it the met working or having the adrenalectomy. Met wasn't working before. Hate taking it. Makes me tired and have a little palpitations after I take it. I waited all day and didn't take it until later and no palpitations. Soon as I took it they started. Not a lot but I use to not have them at all until all the meds. Hate taking meds anyway. Guest guest
How long ago was your ADx? What is your HR and why did your doctor keep you on Met? Can you detail the Alzheimer a little. Guest guest
Not a lot of detail on alzheimer except great grandmother had it and she died at age of 104. Grandmother had it and she died at 85. Both got diagnosed in their mid seventies. I am 54 years old. My heart rate is 60s-80s. I was originally on cardizem and met because of HTN and after adrenolectomy had atrial fibrillation so he kept me on it because my BP went up too. Not sure if cortisol was tested after surgery. Had aldosterone and renin done afterwards and doc said it was ok. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > If BBCs and CCBs don't work for BP after adrenolectomy what does. Metoprolol didn't work anyway. Guest guest
I asked about timing of andrenalectomy because I've seen reports of it taking up to a year to see full benefits. It might be appropriate for you and your doctor to try and step met back. My PCP insisted I stay on a bblocker until NIH wanted it stopped. HR now 68 - 74! Alzheimer? Cortisol? What was that all about?? Oh Yea, I remember (I shouldn't make light of it, it is a dreadful disease but if I don't smile I start crying!) My Dad died from alzheimer complications at 79 in 1997. Since I have been made aware of my cortisol issues I have been looking into it and am finding reference to higher cortisol levels in people w/alzheimer. It appears I have a form of heriditary PA and we have been blaming my Mom who had a kidney removed in 1944. I'm now wondering if maybe we need to look at the other parent and will be discussing the whole issue with thr doctors at NIH! (They have all been out of the office but they better have their butts back tomorrow and be redy to answer questions!) ..... > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > If BBCs and CCBs don't work for BP after adrenolectomy what does. Guest guest
Alzheimer's & Dementia are use interchangeably. They may not have the same cause. Dementia can be caused by high blood pressure. Used to be called harding or the arteries. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > If BBCs and CCBs don't work for BP after adrenolectomy > what does. Metoprolol didn't work anyway. Guest guest
Alzheimer is one thing you don't need to explain to me. Having been a caregiver of 8+ years and watching my father deteriorate, trust me, I KNOW THE DIFFERENCE! Only idiots use them interchangebly, IMHO! > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > If BBCs and CCBs don't work for BP after adrenolectomy > > what does. Metoprolol didn't work anyway. Guest guest
There are many types and etiology of dementia; one if which is alzheimer's. Stroke due to hypertension or atherosclerosis can also result in dementia. Aging, Pick's disease, frontal lobe dementia are all other causes and types. There are also types of Alzheimer's, such as early onset Alzheimer's. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > If BBCs and CCBs don't work for BP after adrenolectomy > > > what does. Guest guest
Hello everyone. Have been busy. BP doing very well now. Has been highest at 130/84. Been mostly 110-119/70s-80s. Get a little lightheaded at night and it is usually at 100/68. Have more follow up visits with doc. Might have to wean off metoprolol to 75 mg instead of 100mg daily. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > If BBCs and CCBs don't work for BP after > > > adrenolectomy > > > > what does.
