Dear Tina,

Thanks for the great article. Taking 200mcg chromium piccolinate 2x a

day has changed my life, and it is great to have scientific backup

for my experience.

Sheila,

I noticed a difference after 2 weeks or so. It is great for diabetics

and pre-diabetics too, as it increases insulin sensitivity. My

husband is a Type I diabetic and even though doctors think it is more

helpful for Type II, he started taking it and now when he goes a bit

high or a bit low, it takes much longer than it used to, which gives

us time to deal with it before it is serious.

Maybe the pancreatitis slightly damaged your pancreas? That could be

the cause of the hypoglycemia. I am pre-diabetic according to the

Glycemic Tolerance test, too - and my morning blood sugars have

increased consistently, even while on Atkins. A few years ago, they

were in the 50s (hypoglycemia). Now they are in the upper 90s, which

leads me to believe that if I were eating the standard, 60% carb

diet, I'd officially be diabetic.

Barbara,

The dose recommended is 200mcg to 600mcg. I started on 600mcg (200mcg

3 times a day, with meals) and after 2 months, switched to 400mcg. It

seems that once you correct the deficiency, you can take less. I've

even taken only 200mcg when I was running out of it and still felt

better, but the problem was that since it was only one pill a day,

I'd skip the evening pill and wouldn't wake up feeling as normal as

usual. I am sure if I took 2 100mcg pills though, one with breakfast

one with dinner, it would be enough.

So I'd start on the maximum dosage for quick results. Chromium is not

very abundant in our daily diets (it is basically only in apples,

brewer's yeast, and wheat germ, so almost everyone is deficient), and

this method seems to work well.

Venizia!

Chromium Picolinate is very bad!!! You only want whole food sources of

Chromium!!! INNATE brand is excellent! Also, check out Barr's book at

www.choosetobehealthy.com

I just read the book! It is excellent! Also, if you have autoimmune, then

you are probably seriously deficient in Selenium! Only whole food source

though! INNATE brand is what I am taking! Remember this, as it is VERY

important!

Blessings!

Here is the link for the books, selenium, chromium!

Sandy,

I am assuming because you use this group you are hypoT? Can I ask what you are

doing

about your meds?

I feel your frustration also. I am 5' 2 " and now weigh 160# All this in the

last year and a

half. Before that I weighed 125#. But none of my doctors have any answers.

Not that

they haven't tried but something is not right with the way a lot of us are being

treated.

I am seriously thinking of going to Mayo Clinic.

Chromium picolinate is a toxic substance! In 1983, Volume 3 of Journal Annual

Review of Nutrition stated: " The documented toxicity of picolinate detracts

from any therapeutic value it may have. " Only whole food sources of Chromium

are of any help then. Get the book from Barr, you will see it all in his

book! He recommends the INNATE brand! I just read all of this!

I hope this helps!

Blessings!

If you want fairly reliable info on such things, enroll in sites such as

PUBMED, or MEDSCAPE, both of which are medical sites and are free. You just

have to enroll. THere is valuable info to be had there - including info

done in studies.

What's the signs of toxicity, what does it cause? I have been

searching and can't come up with anything significant. I used to

take this years ago. Worked for me, but I now have other health

problems and wondering if they are related.

The negative information on this one is still scant on either. I'm

curious what you two are finding that is so bad.
