Never thought it would be so confusing trying to learn about shot put training.

Not a lot of quality info that I can find. Are coaches too secretive at this

level?

These are 12-14 year old girls trying shot put for the first time. There is a

lot of drills and strength training info but not much consensus.

After reading the available literature my gut says: 50% technique, 30% strength

training, 20% agility/plyometrics. Anyone have any info or resources they could

share?

There is a great " throws resource " just down I-5 from your community.

I refer to the new facility at Concordia University in Portland, directed by Mac

Wilkins.

http://macwilkins.com/

Mac has found the resources to put together one of the best new throws centers

in the US.

He is committed to giving back to young athletes all the support he received in

achieving his world titles.

English coaches at Arlington WA High School and teaches at either one of

the junior high's or one of the middle schools. Her son was a client of mine and

we talked a good deal about skill development for throwing.

She would be a good local contact.

You might also contact Weir, the Univ. of Oregon throws coach. Another

great resource is the former throws coach, Lance Deal, who took another position

at the U of O.
