I recall discussions on clenbuterol as a performance enhancer going back

to the early eighties. It is often used with livestock. It makes confined

calves and lambs gain muscle mass even though they get little or no

exercise.

I don't believe the original intent of the drug. It was effective in

treating respiratory infections in animals housed together in confined places.

And what owners discovered is that animals on the drug gained muscle mass.
