Guest guest
Does anyone here know of a way to keep from getting this stuff, other than stay away from it. When I was younger I could just about eat the stuff and never have a breakout and now if I look at it I end up with more bumps than I have pores. Guest guest
I got a fulvic minerals complex supplement just because it said it's good for poison ivy. The fulvic is supposed to be a great detoxer and somehow helps get rid of the reaction to poison ivy. I've been taking it daily just for the trace minerals in it and didn't get poison ivy yet this year, unusual for me since I've been picking berries right among the plants. Something for immediate relief, tho temporary, is to chew a plantain leaf and put it on the itchy areas. Something that dries like baking soda, milk of magnesia, or clay applied to the area may help prevent it from spreading and absorb some of the oils. Camping stores sell a poison ivy remedy but I think it works best when the rash is fresh. Called Technu, it comes highly recommended as the one that works, better than calamine. > > A friend of mine is having terrible trouble with Poison Ivy this year. > She gets bad rashes and then hives like me. Guest guest
Dawn I'd suggest your friend mash up some jewelweed or plantain leaves and apply it to her skin. These are pretty common weeds found in most backyards. The longer it sits on the rash, the more comfort it provides. ~jeni On Jul 21, 2009, at 1:47 PM, Dawn wrote: > A friend of mine is having terrible trouble with Poison Ivy this year. > She gets bad rashes and then hives like me. If so can anyone recommend a good brand? The new rashes are on her neck and face which isn't easy to soak in an epsom salt bath. Guest guest
Could you provide the name or maker of that fulvic minerals supplement? That sounds interesting. Guest guest
Thank you everyone! some great ideas. I usually have a terrible reaction to this and the last time I was covered in hives from the soles of my feet to my scalp. There was a time after that where it started and i immediately bathed in epsom salt and cleaned all the bedding again and it stopped. Guest guest
Use either of two common plants. (1) Jewel weed, which generally grows near poison ivy or the miracle plant (2) Plantain, which grows everywhere here in the east. Pick and crush either in your hands and rub on affected area or steep a tea with the leaves and stems and make a poultice with liquid and wilted plant matter. Jewel weed will take sting out and Plantain will cure Google the plant names or edible plants for identification, descriptions and pictures. Guest guest
Jewelweed flowers do wonders for helping neutralize poison ivy, both the itch and the rash. It generally grows near poison ivy as well, sort of nature's built in helper lol. If you can identify the plant, just break off a flower and run the inner juices on the rash. Some soapmakers make bars of soap and lotions with jewelweed as well, if you have local soapers at the farmer's markets and such. > > A friend of mine is having terrible trouble with Poison Ivy this year. > She gets bad rashes and then hives like me.
