Update to Previous Kidney Issues

I last posted late last year concerning low GFR (<60). I saw the Nephrologist

in March and he told me:

Your kidneys will never get any better

You will be in renal failure in ~20 years

Your long term prognosis is not good because of all of your health problems

I specifically asked him if Spironolactone could be responsible for this problem

and he responded: NO. I contacted my PCP and asked the same question and got

the same answer.

A week later, I had a 6 month check with my Endo. My Endo is about an hour and

a half away in the burg PA area and was highly recommended by another

member of the group. I explained the entire situation to her with my kidneys and

she stated that it could be from chronic dehydration from the spiro. She said

that I should try and switch to Inspra. I explained to her that I had tried it

in the past and stopped it due to the onset of depression. She told me to

" humor " her and try it for a few months. I started immediately on 75 mg of

Inspra and stopped the spiro. In the meantime, I detailed to her some other

issues that I have been having. These include:

Hot flashes

Cold flashes

Painful Gynecomastia

Heat intolerance

Hives on hands and feet in the evenings

Pressure-induced hives

Ocular migraine attacks

She said that if I would have reported this to her sooner, she would have

started the Inspra sooner. Her opinion was that many of the listed symptoms

were due to low testosterone from the Spiro. So, that was in March. Today I am

very happy to report that all of the above issues have cleared including the

depression at the onset of the Inspra. I just spoke with the Endo this

afternoon for the results of some recent bloodwork and my eGFR is back above 60.

I am very thankful for this turn of events and wanted to share it with the group

in case anyone else is having similar issues.

Other issues: bicuspid aortic valve, enlarged aortic root, enlarged ascending

aorta, hypothyroidism, allergies, asthma, gout, stomach discomfort, depression

Meds: Inspra, Levoxyl, Allopurinol, Toprol, Allegra, Prilosec, Ranitidine,

Singulair, Flonase, Albuterol, Wellbutrin
