Guest guest
Hi. I'm Pam and have RA now for 3yrs, so far the only meds that work for me are pred and vioxx. I have tried methotrexate but after 4weeks I end up with some infection some where so that is out. My doctor can't get beyond that drug she said if I can't take it I won't be able to take the others. Anybody have any ideas. I'm 42 and live in south Texas and don't have anyone to talk to that can understand what I'm living with.
Guest guest
Hi Pam, I'm Barbara. I'm 40 and have had RA for over 28 years. The only med that has ever done anything for me has been methotrexate. I was on it for over a year when I came down with a bacterial infection that only appears on my thighs! This has been going on since January. They have since taken me off the methotrexate, saying that it has suppressed my immune system to much so now I'm sussecpible(sp?) to infections. I have since been to the rheumatologist 2x a month, the dermatologist & a hematologist and none of them can figure out whats going on. The last time I was at the rheumies they suggested that I go on plaquenil when I go back - tonight as a matter of fact - because its a much milder med. I have severe RA, I was supposed to start Kineret! I have already failed so many meds Enbrel included. When I see the rheumy tonight I hope to get some answers. Have you tried plaquenil? Maybe you can ask your dr about it. Let me know how it turs out. Good Luck & God Bless, Barbara mapgarland <mapgarland@...> wrote: Hi. Guest guest
Hi Pam have you considered the infection connection treatment to your ra…the book is fascinating… http://www.ra-infection-connection.com/ http://roadback.org/ is the website of the doctor who pioneered this approach I hope these two sites can offer you some invaluable information as those who have taken this approach have historically gotten ill on some of the traditional therapies… there is a lot of information at the sites… I am sorry that the meds are not working for you… I was offered plaquenil or doxycyline….i chose the antibiotic protocol after tonnnnnnnnnns of research Hope this helps if only for the information aspect historically of how RA has been treated over the years.. Guest guest
Hi Pam, I hope this finds you feeling better! I'm sorry I'm the only one that responded to you, maybe its just that the weather has been so great that everyone is out enjoying it! Have you seen the dr yet? Well as it goes for me the heomatologist didn't find out the cause of the infection either. I did see my rheumy again & he didn't give me Kineret yet but he did say it wasn't because of the meds. so he let me have the methotrexate again, yippee! I go back in a month. He did mention that it could be hormonal & that I should have it checked out. So now I have to see the gyn for hormonal blood workup. Thank God I waited to see her, I was supposed to go in Jan. but since I was seeing a different dr each week I put it off, now I'm glad I did. So I go to the gyn next month also, she already sent me a prescription for the blood work so she'll have it when I get there. At least someone is thinking. Now about the chats. I don't think your a dummy at all. I also have no clue how to use them so I tend to stay away & just use the email system. Guest guest
Hi Pam, I was unexpectedly out of town due to a funeral. My email was full so I believe the message you sent may not have gotten to me. Could you send it again? (you can send it to my personal address if you don't want to send it to the list again). Take care, Barbara,Thanks for your reply, so for you are the >only person to respond, I guess I was hoping for more >of surport group than this is turning out to be.But >just knowing you are out there with me helps.
