Guest guest
Anyone tried this for their child? My p-doc has suggested zyprexa for my 13 yr old who is still unbending in her eating ritual which prevents badly needed weight gain (however she is looking better b/c my 16 yr old daughter whom she copies has been eating alot-but secretly disposes of some of her food-I know I should not reinforce the ritual -but she needs the calories). Zyprexa is an antipsychotic with side effect of weight gain. I'm wondering what if my daughter develops a ravenous apetite but still can't eat b/c she truly believes breaking her ritual will have such frightening consequences (such as she'll never be able to eat again). On the other hand maybe the zyprexa could reduce the intensity of her fear? On the other hand she had a severely agitating self injuring panic response to zoloft a year ago (before any weight problem) so can she withstand any potentially severe reactions in her weakened state? Just my own fearful obsessing going on... I would love for the zyprexa to reduce the intensity of her OCD and help her to eat though, seems almost to good to be true... Blocking her ritual with exposures still presents quite a problem since it can result in her wish to fast to " re-start " the safe eating ritual. What I have also found is that she will try some small exposures b/c I want her to (such as eating same meal as her sister- but not watching her sister eat it) but then she is excercizing to control the anxiety and neutralize any extra calories. So now I have to get her to sit still rather than exercize and this is another challenge. nancy grace
