Guest guest
Hi Marilyn. I have no problem with you posting any of my information, but I can't speak for anyone else. Personally I have passed on information both ways--by asking the original poster if I could pass it on, and for other more general information I've just removed all identifying information and posted the knowledge. But--some people are more concerned about where their info goes, so it is always best to write the person (usually via the list is ok) and ask if it's ok with them if you pass it on. Samala, -------Original Message------- anything else I need to mention or ask, etc.?
Guest guest
I don't approve, but I can't stop you. Anything that goes out on the 'net is public whether you realize it or not. Guest guest
Hi Chuck, no, of course you can't stop me. but it would not be right to do that. I appreciate the high degree of ethics of the people on this list and am not one to betray it. The definition, sense, literal and figurative meaning of " public " is a gray one, depending on the situation, context, jurisdiction, viewer and such. I do not share your opinion that anything that goes out on the net is public. Why would I have asked if I was not going to do it, knowing full well it would never be 'found out'. And I have taken care of it. Thank you for your encouragement and support. I like your quip. - Marilyn - At 08:30 PM 9/28/2008 -0400, cking001@... wrote: >I don't approve, but I can't stop you. >Anything that goes out on the 'net is public whether you realize it or >not. > > Chuck >Support bacteria - they're the only culture some people have >
Guest guest
I appreciate your answer, and admire your sense of ethic, but I'd like to vector the point a bit. It is not opinion that anything that goes out on the net is public, but fact. You only have to look at the difficulties that people bring onto themselves by posting imprudent pictures and opinions (blogging if you will), when employers, prospective employers, friends and teachers, etc. google around. It is naive to think your postings are private in any sense. Chuck Energizer Bunny arrested, charged with battery. Guest guest
Hi Chuck, I appreciate that you have your own opinion. You used the word " net " in your first msg which I took to mean " internet " . Internet is a very big place. In your next you talk about " postings " and " bloggings " . Postings as in emails? Emails and blogs are a small part of internet. And google does not find everything. Some things it won't find, some thing it can not find. There are search engines other than google and they find different things, things google does not find. Just as, in government, there is government you can see and government you can not see and government you will never see. Are you talking about the net -- or -- postings to a very public email list or what? It is naive to think that email lists and blogs are the entire net. And it is simply not so that everything that is on the net is public. I hope I've clarified my statements to your satisfaction. If you want to continue discussing this I can do so but think it would be better to do so offlist? yes, it can be amazing the scrapes people get themselves into by posting? Bet that can be another big area, like America's Funniest Videos! take care. - Marilyn - At 10:04 PM 9/28/2008 -0400, cking001@... wrote: >I appreciate your answer, and admire your sense of ethic, but I'd like >to vector the point a bit. >It is not opinion that anything that goes out on the net > is public, but fact. > >You only have to look at the difficulties that people bring onto >themselves by posting imprudent pictures and opinions (blogging if you >will), when employers, prospective employers, friends and teachers, >etc. google around. >It is naive to think your postings are private in any sense. > > Chuck > >Energizer Bunny arrested, charged with battery. > >On 9/28/2008 9:42:38 PM, Marilyn Gang (mgang@...) wrote: >> Hi Chuck, > >> The definition, sense, literal and figurative meaning of " public " is a >> gray one, depending on the situation, context, jurisdiction, viewer and >> such. Guest guest
I do not mind you using any of my information. If it can help others to learn about using MMS, then I think that's great and you are doing a good thing! -- [ ] Postings from this list Dear List, Many of the postings on this list have been very valuable to me, even in the short time I have been on it. I appreciate it for being one of the best lists I am on (over 40 but I don't download msgs from all of them) for staying on topic and really helping virtually all the time. I know its hard to do all the time when people feel they start to know one another. Here's my question this time -- I organize a group and we have a mostly monthly newsletter. MMS has been featured in some of our issues. This shall continue for a little while longer. I have asked a few questions of this list for info that I need for me, personally, and for someone I know, and the answers I have received are good ones. There are postings on this list where the info would be very helpful to the group. May I use the some of the content of some of the emails to include in our newsletter(s)? There are about 8 or so of them from the messages I have rec'd since I've been here. I do not need to --- nor intend to, identify the person, unless someone wants that which I strongly doubt. Just the info. - May I do this? yes, no, perhaps, on condition..... ??? - Would I have to ask the list about specific postings? or the poster? - etc.? what else? the newsletter is mailed out to 400 people and parts of it are put online. I don't like to take writings and put them in our publication. It was done to me, w/o my permission, I found out later and it is not a good feeling. anything else I need to mention or ask, etc.? continued thanks. - Marilyn - ------------------------------------
Guest guest
I've made my point that nothing dies on the internet and unless you're prudent, your postings can come back to bite you. Guest guest
Hi Chuck ! thank you. I listened to you, checked out the archive.org site. Have you ever been in a new town and seen a large book store, thought OH GOODY and gone in? Only to find that all they have are not first run books, but the overstocks and the odd job lots that they bought at a deep discount. That is what archive.org looked like to me after I spent about 10' poking around. sites that would be 4th runner up, maybe. or would pop up as number 227 on a google search list. I thank you for sharing your not so humble opinion with me. Again, email --- or postings as you refer to it --- is but a small part of internet. Normally I'd offer to continue this w you offline but now I don't have the time and it just ain't worth it. Good luck to you. - Marilyn - At 01:01 PM 9/29/2008 -0400, cking001@... wrote: >I've made my point that nothing dies on the internet and unless you're >prudent, your postings can come back to bite you. > >As an interesting aside, check out the wayback machine that can find >defunct sites from history: http://www.archive.org/index.php > > > Chuck >Laughing stock: cattle with a sense of humor. > >On 9/29/2008 2:59:57 AM, Marilyn Gang (mgang@...) wrote: >> Hi Chuck, >> >> I appreciate that you have your own opinion. >> You used the word " net " in your first msg which I took to mean >> " internet " .
