Guest guest
Esther, Thank you for replying! It is good to hear from you! How are ya doing? Anyway, I thought I had heard something like that about losing your disability if you get married. Bcs they count the spouses income as yours even if you don't use any of it. I have a friend in Canada whose husband is on disability. She went back to work and they deducted money from " his " disability check. So even though the wife is working, they aren't getting any more money than they were before with just her husbands disability check. It really stinks! She works bcs she wants to and loves it, but it isn't to help add extra money to the household bcs they still get the same before she was working. I swear, you can't get ahead no matter how hard you try. They b**** and complain about people being on welfare, but they don't give them a chance to get off. It is no wonder some people stay on it rather than work. And if you are on disability, you are even more screwed (excuse my language there, couldn't think of another word). Not only do you live a life of pain and sickness, but you have to live it poor and for a lot of people, you hope and pray you have enough for a roof over your head and your medications. This country is really messed up! Maybe this will make me mad enough to start a campaign and start writing letters to all the congressman. Arg!!!! I guess that is also a lot of the reason why Ryder and I have just stayed boyfriend and girlfriend. It's bad enough I have been cheated out of a lot of things in life. Like having my own children, or just being able to get to the bathroom on my own, but now I am not even allowed to get married?!?!? I think I will go grab a pillow and do some screaming! ~ =)
Guest guest
Hi , Yeah......life just isn't fair sometimes! Especially life with a disability! I am doing okay I guess. I can sit up practically all day now. My doctors still want me to have home therapy. I have a male physical therapist come here 3 days a week and I also have an occupational therapist who comes 3 times a week. The doctor ordered me a prone-stander. It allows me to stand.......all strapped in..........this is to help my bones to become stronger. When one sits all the time, the bones become very thin. I love standing in it but can only do it for 15 mins. with the therapist. He won't let Mom put me in it by herself yet. It has a tray on it so when I can stand for an hour or so, I can have my water (a) on it hehehee. I also have a mental health nurse who comes to the house twice a week to help work with me on eating " fat " . I still have a hard time eating anything that contains fat..........Mom wants you to know that I do not take after her hehehee.......I eat non-fat yogurt (like ice cream) but she says she wants the real thing LOL. I still am not back at work yet but will probably get the " ok " in a week or so. I am just going to start working 3 days a week instead of the 5. My bladder is still paralyzed but Mom is doing the straight-cathing like a pro. Wish you well........have a great night/day! ~ Esther ~ ----- Original Message ----- From: <Rysu19@...> < egroups> Sent: Wednesday, May 24, 2000 12:02 AM Subject: Re: [ ] SSI > Esther, > > Thank you for replying! Guest guest
There is no way you can loose your SS or SSDI check if you marry, I was on SSDI before I married and I didn't loose mine, only SSI counts when you marry. Please call your SS office in your State to find out. I live in Massachusetts and the laws are tough here. Guest guest
Yes, I think my cousin's grandmother would have lost her widow's benefits if she were to marry........anyway, she is forced to remain single ----- Original Message ----- From: Verna <vabparrots@...> < egroups> Sent: Wednesday, May 24, 2000 10:02 AM Subject: Re: [ ] SSI > There is no way you can loose your SS or SSDI check if you marry, I was on > SSDI before I married and I didn't loose mine, only SSI counts when you > marry.
