Guest guest
Hi meme I've had RA for several years and I know the pain you speak of. When I was at my worst and wasn't taking anything strong the only way I could even walk was if I took Darvocet around the clock. My doctor wanted to put me on strong medication right away but I avoided it. Bad choice. When I went on methotrexate I was like new. He found the right medication and dose for me and I could do things pain free again. I take plaquenil, relafen, azulfadine, and the best one methotrexate. These medications do take a few months to get into your system but when they do .... It's great. But again if you can tolerate darvacet it may help the pain some. With the right medication and a little patience this disease can be under control and you can live a relatively pain free life. Guest guest
Hi Meme, I was given amitriptyline (Elavil), which is very inexpensive, to take to help with pain and sleep. It is actually an antidepressant but has been found to help with pain and with sleep too. It might be an option to ask your doctor about. Good luck! Guest guest
You don't say what kind of doctor you are going to, but if you suspect rheumatoid arthritis you should be seeing a rheumatologist (a doctor who specializes in problems with joints). Inflammatory diseases such as RA often respond rather quickly to corticosteroids such as Prednisone. This is often used as an aid in diagnosis and to offer temporary relief while other medications have time to become effective. After prolonged use Prednisone (like most medicines) can have bad side effects but the effects are not as bad as untreated RA.. The pain of RA usually starts in the hands or ankles, but maybe it can start in the hips. A rheumatologist would be the best one to find out what causes your pain. Good luck and God bless. Guest guest
Meme, To back up what Sandy said, try amitriptyline (Elavil). I take it as needed and I find that it works great. I don't feel as grogy (sp?) the next day. It's a anti-depressent when taken in small doses (to look at the pill you would think a tic tac took a dump) helps you sleep. I hope all is well. Try to see your doctor on a more regular basis. This may sound strange but try to stay cheerful. Depression is one of the side affects of RA. If you act happy you will tend to feel better.
