Guest guest
The iodine you are talking about, is that the stuff that all of the drug stores and Walmart carry? I though that was not safe for human consumption because it was not water based or something like that. From: helen/zhebee <zhebee@...>Subject: [ ] OT - Iodine stories Date: Sunday, November 9, 2008, 6:16 AM Below's an email I sent to someone who contacted me offgroup and I thought some of you might enjoy and learn from these stories. This happened long before the internet and before all this talk about iodine when iodine was a scary thing to consume internally. As a teenager, I had Graves Disease (overactive thyroid and goiter). At one point, my doctor decided to try having me consume ordinary topical iodine at 15 drops per day. I did that for 2 weeks. It did nothing for the disease but I lived through it. In those days, iodine came with a Skull and Crossbones on it. Scary. Just so you know, I finally had a very successful surgery (surprising, isn't it. Some times, medicine makes a mistake and 'cures' someone, not that I consider it a cure) and I have had no problems with it since, unlike so many others. So years later, I was helping out an old fellow prepare his meals, etc. He told me he had had ulcers a few years before. I asked what he did to get rid of it and he told me he used iodine. I couldn't believe it. I was thinking surgery. I wondered how he knew to use iodine. He said he used iodine for colds and flus, too. So I asked how he took it. He said he dropped 5 drops in a glass of water or milk and drank it on an empty stomach. Then he ate nothing for 30 minutes or so. He only did it once a day. This man was an alcholic and he didn't quit drinking either through the iodine treatment he gave himself. You have to understand that, at the time, there was no cure for ulcers. The whole thing was like a major miracle to me. His mother-in-law when she was about 89 years old, was scheduled for surgery to have 2/3 of her stomach removed for ulcers. When he told them about his iodine 'trick' as he called it, they tried it on her and she was able to cancel her surgery and never did have to have it. It wasn't until a couple of years later, that science discovered that ulcers was caused by some kind of bug or parasite that likes to live in the stomach. The iodine must have killed it. Guest guest
Since it was just recently discovered the significance of Helicobacter pylori bacterial infection in the cause of many ulcer cases, it is not too surprising that iodine could have a very beneficial affect on such stomach problems. I might add that just plain old cayenne powder taken orally has cured ulcers as well. doug
Guest guest
Hi The iodine used in the stories were justthe ordinary iodine carried in the drugstores. Note that, in my own case, it wasa doctor who prescribed it and I rememberthat he said it would be ok to use the ordinary iodine. Also notice that in noneof the stories did anyone take the iodinefor very long. I am not saying that it wasgood to use. I am just telling what happened.I have since purchased and used the foodgrade iodine that we have here in health stores. Iodine is good for us and in biggeramounts than we previously thought butit still can be very toxic when overdone. It'sthe old story that you can overdo anythingso care needs to be taken. If I wanted to use iodine and I could not get anything but the ordinary iodine, I would still consume it today.
