My wife has a lump on her breastbone about the size if a silver

dollar. It is hard and very painful. It hurts mainly at night but now

it hurts during the day as well. She wanted me to ask you that if

from anyone's experience this sounds like a possible manifestation of

her rheumatoid arthritis.

Thank you

Hal

Dear Hal,

Hello! I have a similar size lump about the size of a nickel in the

same place. When I first found it, it was barely noticeable so I figured it

was an ingrown pimple or something. Several months ago, I noticed it had

grown and told my doctor. He advised me to monitor it and if it grows or

becomes painful to tell him and we would test it (I'm only 24 and we both

noticed it is not necesssary to invasively test it when it could just be a

calcium deposit.)

Since the lump your wife found hurts and is a considerable size, I

recommend telling the doctor. My doctor told me that if mine grows it's

more likely to be a side effect of my meds, not the RA.

Hope that helps.

Take care,

I found the same type of pea size lump on my daugther (at the base of the

neck a little behind the ear) and both CT and my pediatrician looked at it and

said it was a lymphnode. It could have been a little swollen because she was

fighting off a cold or some other germs.

I think I would have never have known it was there unless she was wearing a

band. I was feeling her head to see if the band was working when I found it. I

am not worried about it because I trust CT and my doctor. Also, it is not as

big

anymore.

It's a cyst-like lump. I can move it a little with my finger and it

feels soft.

Did your pediatrician send him for the MRI? I guess I will talk to

the ortho about whether or not we should make an appointment.

The pediatrician ordered the MRI because his head seemed to regress

after graduating from his DOC Band. He thinks everything is fine

but said he wants to confirm that.

We recently had the same thing (pea size lump at base of her neck) and our PT also said it was a lymphnode. We probably felt it because it was swollen at the time-- it is much smaller now.

We had the same experience....long before our daughter even got her band. It seems that swollen lymph nodes are very common in that area for infants, and our ped told us exactly the same as below. They can swell even for something as minor as cradle cap. Still definitely ask your doctor about it, but it is likely nothing to worry about.cmiller3000 <cmiller3000@...> wrote: I found the same type of pea size lump on my daugther (at the base of the neck a little behind the ear) and both CT and my pediatrician looked at it and said it was a

We saw the orthotist yesterday, and she agreed that it was a

lymphnode. She said it can be caused by a cold/fever or even

teething, which we are currently dealing with. I probably wouldn't

have noticed it either if not for the heightened awareness brought

on by the helmet!

Thanks!
