Guest guest
Dear Forum, I have just visited my doctor in Bangkok, and have received affirmation of good practice. By following the diet and “lifestyle” I have lost 10kg in 5 months. And feel good for it!! I have been experiencing excessive mucus, connected with my original problem of GERD, and told him I was trying the ginger compress. His attitude was laissez faire, if I felt it was good for me do it. However I told him I thought I had certain symptoms of liver dysfunction, nothing major, and he told me his 5-point plan for lasting health:- 1) Fasting 2) Diet 3) Colon Irrigation 4) Qi Gung and Yoga 5) Meditation I liked this plan but am asking for advice for 1) and 3) as I initially consider them unnatural. 3) It was my first time to have colon irrigation, and I had to release the coffee twice because it was causing internal pain. Apart from the embarrassment as I had the treatment in a clinic I was dazed but came away thinking the treatment was very helpful. The doctor gave me 5 turmeric pills and a ginseng tablet before the treatment. I have tried it again at home and could only hold in the coffee for about 4 minutes – as opposed to 10, but again felt very good after doing it. Since the treatment I have had small flu – it felt like flus I regularly had as a teacher but have never had since retiring. This could also be because I was off-diet some of the time because I was eating out, and because I was in a big city. Here’s the rub. The doctor wants me to do the treatment every week for 3 months, and then every two weeks after that. His 5-point plan is for life. I mentioned this to a macrobiotic friend, and he said what about the good bacteria? Whilst I can see the treatment as being corrective and therefore acceptably unnatural – inserting a tube, I have difficulty accepting the long-term practice if my diet is good. Any comments? 1) Fasting – This is a fruit only day, once a week for ever. Eat one fruit, and drink juice of fruit and water only. Then next morning 1.5 l of water with juice of 4 lemons and 3 tsp of sea salt to induce watery diarrhoea. This also feels unbalanced. I would welcome advice as to whether people see 1) and 3) above as drastic, and unnatural. The doctor assured the procedures were not dangerous but because I perceive them as unnatural I am not sure. Hope you are keeping well, All the Best Bill Z
Guest guest
one thing I've learned from the group is that macrobiotics is always changing and learning. It doesn't have to be strictly one way. I think the best approach to health is to get stuff from several avenues. Most are constipated tho we don't realize it. If we eat 3 times a day theoretically we should evacuate the same amount. Fasting is good too, better than constantly stuffing ourselves.
