Guest guest
Dear Forums, http://www.alternet.org/healthwellness/81773/?page=entire The writer of this article discussed mostly research into advantages of organic but for me it was interesting to see that the US government will not discuss the advantages:- “Try to get guidance from the federal government on the potential health benefits of eating organic, and you'll find your questions quickly and politely deflected. The US Department of Health and Human Services will defer to its Food and Drug Administration (FDA). FDA spokespeople will say that " organic " is a term used by the USDA, not the FDA, and that the FDA has no policy on organics. The USDA will say that its mandate does not extend to passing judgement on the relative safety and nutritional benefits of organic versus conventional foods, and that the USDA's task is simply to regulate use of the " certified organic " label.” Is it true to say the US government will not take a position? Is it also true of the UK government? Elsewhere? Hope you are keeping well, All the Best Bill Z
Guest guest
Bill..thanks for this... I'm going to read this at the hospital while my 75 year old mom has surgery to unblock her only (barely) functional carotid artery. I'm trying to convince her to change her diet, if not to prolong her life, at least to help her feel better. She has so many things going on that I believe are at the very least exacerbated by the way she eats...which is typical American cuisine. I've lost 26 lbs since starting to live completely macro/vegan/organic a few months ago....mostly because the intense constant craving for subsufficient food has been eliminated. For the first time in a long time I know I can shed this blanket of fat in spite of the fact that I can't work my butt off in a gym or running (although I hope to be able to do both in the future). I only wish it hadn't taken me so long to find the secret (I'm 50), but hey, my next incarnation is definitely looking up! Guest guest
Great Roxy, I hope your mom will listen. Good luck with her surgery too. There are several Kushi books about heart disease and curing it. Maybe you can get some for her? About you, it's better you did it now than never. 50 is as good an age as any. I have a friend in Aus who became veg at 13 I'm so impressed! Thanks Reggie, Her surgery went well and she already feels the benefits of having more than just 1/3 of 1/2 normal carotid activity. Can you imagine? She doesn't quite get the idea of whole foods versus manufactured/altered yet...old school American, y'know. But seeing how much difference it's made for me coupled with having major life-threatening surgery may help to convince her. > About you, it's better you did it now than never. 50 is as good an age as any.Yes, I am very grateful that I have come this far...more with each day as I continue to feel healthier and more robust. I have so much energy, pain levels are way down, blood pressure is down, and my bed is now a place to go at night for sleep instead of the center of my world! If this keeps up, I'm gonna go on Oprah so I can tell the world how much difference real food can make! Good to hear from you again, Roxy
Guest guest
Hey Roxy No I can't imagine but we all deal with our own demons and I'm one that can't point fingers. Keep up your good work. Everyone says that the best way to prove a point is not to preach but to lead by example. Hopefully your mom will follow going on Oprah???? Peace, Reggie > > Good luck with her surgery too. > > Thanks Reggie, > > Her surgery went well and she already feels the benefits of having more > than just 1/3 of 1/2 normal carotid activity.
