Guest guest
Dear Forums, http://www.alternet.org/healthwellness/81773/?page=entire The writer of this article discussed mostly research into advantages of organic but for me it was interesting to see that the US government will not discuss the advantages:- “Try to get guidance from the federal government on the potential health benefits of eating organic, and you'll find your questions quickly and politely deflected. The US Department of Health and Human Services will defer to its Food and Drug Administration (FDA). FDA spokespeople will say that " organic " is a term used by the USDA, not the FDA, and that the FDA has no policy on organics. The USDA will say that its mandate does not extend to passing judgement on the relative safety and nutritional benefits of organic versus conventional foods, and that the USDA's task is simply to regulate use of the " certified organic " label.” Is it true to say the US government will not take a position? Is it also true of the UK government? Elsewhere? Hope you are keeping well, All the Best Bill Z
Guest guest
Dear Roxy, I am sorry to hear about your mother’s health. I hope she is not in too much pain and that you are able to reasonably help without having too much stress. I hope that you have some success in altering her damaging food intake. Your own personal decision sounds very close to mine. I have been vegetarian on or off all my adult life, but the way I did it was not so healthy. So I don’t count that in my health evaluation. Last October I started an mb diet, and in March had lost 22lbs I think nearing 30lbs now (I am 56 and retired). But more importantly I feel a lot better. I keep trying different exercise, at the moment a Chi Gung programme but I don’t always keep them up – much better with food than exercise. Sadly I know there was little chance that I could eat properly when I was working, the way stress affected my eating and lifestyle – despite personal efforts. I hope next time round continues to have a better chance. Hope you are keeping well, All the Best Bill Z From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of Roxanne Sent: 30 April 2008 21:56 Subject: Re: US government will not discuss organic Bill..thanks for this... I'm going to read this at the hospital while my 75 year old mom has surgery to unblock her only (barely) functional carotid artery. I'm trying to convince her to change her diet, if not to prolong her life, at least to help her feel better. She has so many things going on that I believe are at the very least exacerbated by the way she eats...which is typical American cuisine. I've lost 26 lbs since starting to live completely macro/vegan/organic a few months ago....mostly because the intense constant craving for subsufficient food has been eliminated. For the first time in a long time I know I can shed this blanket of fat in spite of the fact that I can't work my butt off in a gym or running (although I hope to be able to do both in the future). I only wish it hadn't taken me so long to find the secret (I'm 50), but hey, my next incarnation is definitely looking up!
