Diatomacious Earth is dangerous in the lungs and can cause silicosis I believe.

The tiny particles get into the lungs and scar the tissues, very damaging as the

lungs can't get rid of it. Probably should not be used around the head.

You are correct... this would not be something that should be breathed

in over a long period of time, but it is relatively safe. Zeolites

and silicone are similar.

Check on the difference between natural (food grade) DE and swimming pool DE.

The swimming pool DE has been kiln fired to fracture the little shells to

increase filtering surface area.

I am not recommending inhaling finely divided powders of any kind, just making

the distinction.

Silicosis is the most common occupational lung disease worldwide. Here is the

entire article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silicosis

Please read. I am a ceramic artist and was exposed many years ago. I did not

know how fine particle hang in the air for days. I suppose one exposure for

lice would not cause this condition but why take chances?

Your lungs are worth taking care.

Love,

Jill
